Kirby Plaza. Peter had drawn it and dreamt it so often he felt he knew every inch of it by heart. It gave him an advantage in knowing a good spot for Isabel to hide so Sylar wouldn't find her. However it didn't help him know where Sylar was, if anywhere.
"I'm gonna feel really stupid if I got the date wrong," Peter muttered, mostly to himself.
"The date's right," Sylar said, suddenly appearing behind Peter. With a flick of his hand he TKed Peter across the plaza. "You're a little early with the time."
Peter rolled on the ground, then got back on his feet again. He stayed where he was. If Sylar had the nuclear power, Peter didn't want to copy it. Granted, Peter had never figured out how close he needed to be to someone in order for that to happen.
Sylar frowned at Peter. "Haven't I killed you before?"
"Didn't take," Peter replied. He used his powers to pull water out of the fountain, freeze it into icicles, then send them flying towards Sylar.
"Please." With a gesture Sylar stopped the ice and made it shatter against the ground. One more gesture and there was an invisible hand wrapped around Peter's throat, choking the air out of him. "You think I'm gonna let you ruin it all? Take all the glory? After all that hard work I did killing Ted so I could take his power?"
Peter actually didn't know why, as he was being choked, his thoughts drifted to Anakin. What he did know was that suddenly he understood one of the things Anakin had tried so hard to teach him. As best as he could, Peter reached out to Sylar's mind and all but shouted I think you're going to LET ME GO.
It was enough to provide a distraction. Sylar dropped the TK, covering his ears with his hands as though that might protect him from the noise somehow.
Peter dropped to the ground. He took in several heaving gasps of air and made a mental note to thank Anakin, most likely using words to the effect of "You were right, I was wrong."
Unfortunately Sylar recovered first. He used his TK to yank a parking meter out of its moorings, flying it right into his hand. He then swung it like a club, aiming directly for Peter's head.
Peter shot his hand up to catch it. "Bad idea." Peter jerked the parking meter out of Sylar's hands and swung it right back at him, hitting him as hard as he could. "I've got super strength."
Sylar laughed, dabbing at the cut on his face. "You really think you can defeat me?"
"Starting to like my odds," Peter said. He tossed the meter aside and went for punching Sylar in the face. Repeatedly. Peter would be lying if he said his actions weren't influenced by the memory of a universe where Sylar killed Nathan.
Sylar, far from being intimidated, kept on laughing. Peter had no idea why until he saw what Sylar could see:
Peter's hands were glowing. He'd picked up the power.
"Oh no," Peter said. He concentrated, trying to calm himself and make his hands go back to normal. "Wait, no!"
Sylar got to his feet, still laughing. "What was that about being nothing like me? Turns out you're the villain, Peter. I'm the hero."
Sylar's words were enough to get Peter's panic to be replaced by fury. The emotion went through Peter, blazing a path inside of him and coming out as a concentrated burst of power aimed directly towards where Sylar stood.
Then Sylar wasn't standing there anymore - Peter didn't know where he was or what his powers had done to him - and all that was left was Peter, and the glow in his hands that was growing brighter by the second.
