The radio had said the President was there. A little research had turned up Nathan's name but that had made no sense. If Nathan was President, why was he in an apartment on an island in Virginia? All Peter could figure was that this was part of changing the past. Maybe Nathan was here as a part of protecting Claire. He had to investigate.
Having Hiro's teleportation skills meant not needing to worry about the locked front door. That left him free to start going through what was in the apartment to find out what was going on.
The place seemed spartan. Like Nathan hadn't really settled in yet. It was Nathan though. Peter could recognize some of the possessions and the clothes. It didn't add up though. All the pictures of Nathan - heck, even the pictures of him - showed them both being much younger. Which meant Nathan wasn't President, or even a Congressman. But Mac had said it was 2008. Sure she'd said that the bomb hadn't gone off yet either, but still. A quick trip back into time couldn't change their ages.
Had they come forward somehow? And if so, who had done it and why?
He kept looking, finding evidence of Nathan's job as a teacher, and no evidence of Heidi or the boys. The photo of him and Nathan at the wedding wasn't there either, and Peter knew that was wrong. Hell, everything was.
Never more so when Nathan walked through the door.
As in literally.
"Peter," and this was President Petrelli. Peter would recognize him anywhere. "I've met so many interesting people today but I hadn't expected my brother to be one of them."
Peter got into a defensive position at once. "My brother can't walk through walls. Who are you?"
"An old friend." Nathan faded away and Sylar took his place. He smiled before attacking Peter with a blast of telekinesis that was so strong it sent Peter straight through a window.
Peter, still in shock, took a moment before he could catch himself from falling four stories down to the ground. As he hovered in the air he saw Sylar shoot out of the window, go up, and fly off with a sonic boom.
Peter felt sick. It was one thing for Sylar to look like Nathan. But having his power meant -
Peter flew after him. A TK grab of his own yanked Sylar out of the sky and sent him plummeting down to an empty stretch on the beach below. Peter followed him. "You're going to pay for what you did."
"Me?" Sylar laughed as he got to his feet. "What about you? They blamed me for blowing up New York. But you and I know the real story, don't we, Pete?"
"I'm going to kill you for what you did to Nathan," Peter said. He pulled up bursts of firey red energy in his hands, letting all his emotions turn into anger to fuel it "For what you did in his name."
Sylar brought up a burst of blue energy. "When I killed him he'd already turned against his own kind."
"Liar!" Peter sent a blast directly at Sylar.
Sylar responded in kind, and the two of them began battling it out, power against power.
There was only one problem: alone as they currently were, the island was filled with innocents. Peter knew if the battle got big enough, others would get hurt. Especially if he called on the worst of his abilities.
Luckily there was one key person Sylar hadn't killed yet.
Peter took a hit just to bring Sylar closer. Then he reached out and grabbed him by the arm.
"You never got Claire," Peter said, with a damn near predatory grin, "and you never got Hiro."
With that Peter held on to Sylar and teleported the both of them out of Fandom. They could finish this off elsewhere.
[ooc: NFI, some bits taken and tweaked from Five Years Gone, comments okay, broadcast okay, squirrels please note that Nathan would not have looked like Nathan once the boys left the apartment.]
