Halloween rocks! My baby gave me two Halloween presents, the first being the fabled 2+1/2 hour "Producer's Cut" of "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers", the sixth entry in the "Halloween" franchise, long believed to be the worst in the series due to studio tampering. Yes, Virginia, the theatrical cut is even worse than the godawful Busta Rhymes vehicle that was the eighth installment, "Halloween: Resurrection" ("Trick or treat, muthafucka!"). Well, after finally seeing the cut that was purported to make something thoroughly incompetent into something (dare I dream?) good, I can tell you this: dear sweet baby Jesus that movie is still by far the worst in the series, possibly the worst in ANY series. The slasher flick and the demonic cult movie, to paraphrase Durdent they are two great tastes that don't taste even remotely good together. I'm so glad Paul Rudd was able to salvage his career after that atrocity, and I'm still sad that that had to be Donald Pleasance's last screen performance. He deserved much, much better.
As for the other present she gave me, it's a multi-CD set of Arch Oboler's "Light's Out", far and away the best horror program old-time radio had to offer, and my all time favorite radio show (yes, even more so than "Superman", "The Shadow", "The Jack Benny Program", and "The Colgate Comedy Hour with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello"). Great stuff, with some genuine eerie chills that I can't wait to dig into. "It's...Later...Than...You...Think!"
Off to take the lil' monster trick-or-treating, and then we're gonna curl up with some popcorn and cocoa and watch "The Bride of Frankenstein". All that, plus I picked up Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster is Loose" today. I love Halloween....
