I'm so happy that school is over. All I have left is to grade final exams and I'm done. As for the summer, I'm not thinking too far ahead. I want to at least enjoy my free time for a couple of weeks before I even consider getting a job or doing anything serious. I have plans of painting, reading, and perhaps getting back into shape. Originally, there were prospects of taking a class or two, but I don't think that's going to happen. There's a great conservation class offered, but it starts on May 15th and goes into June...No way. I'm too burnt out.
In other news, I went to the UA art museum today. It was my second time, but my first time actually getting to absorb the material. The whole first floor was dedicated to MFA final projects. Overall, not impressive. Many of the students were trying too hard to connect themselves with the post post post modern art community to the point of incoherence and cliche. I did enjoy a few projects which were personal pieces, and the whole feel of being around ardent creativity was refreshing. I also viewed the university collection and was surprised to find many significant modern artists. There were pieces from Arp, Miro, Hopper, Picasso, Pollock, Kelly, O'Keefe, not to mention several Turner etchings (which was quite surprising because I never knew he did etchings), Durer, a wonderful work by Angelica Kaufmann, Renoir, and others. The visit has reminded me how much I miss studying art.
