but alas....

SHAWN'S TOP TEN REASONS TO LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY

(or at least try to live...)

10.) There are exactly 6,374.6 miles of streets (sidewalks) in NYC. That's a lot of streets to walk, but definitly worth the trip

9.) NYC has approximately 578 miles of beautiful waterfront for your viewing pleasure. These fronts surround the islands of upper and lower Manhattan and are enough to make anyone fall in love with the city.

8.) NYC has Queens, which is just a short trip outside Manhattan. Queens has been called the "home of jazz" since the early 1920's. Queens is still called the home of jazz and is most noted for the jazz superstars of the 1930's who resided there, such as Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong.

7.) The New York City department of transportation is responsible for 5,700 miles of streets and about 753 bridges and tunnels that connect the mainlands to the bronx. Not only does this make the city one of the easiest places to get around, it also makes it one of the busiest and economically stable, as the transportation department serves as one of NYC's most popular businesses.

6.) Macy's is the nations largest department store. That's all that needs to be said.

5.) NYC is one of the few cities in America that is a host to the Yellow Cab Company. Why are NYC's cab's yellow, you ask? Well...John Hertz conducted a study in 1907 in which he concluded that yellow is the only color which can be spotted by the human eye from over a mile away.

4.) Wouldn't you love to in a city called "the big apple"? This term actually caught on in the early 1900's to refer to the shape of a horse-race track in NYC.

3.) You get to see films about 3 weeks before the rest of the country does! You know how on a TV trailer, the advertiser states "opens in select theatres on such and such a date"? Well...when you hear that phrase, think of me getting to watch a major release before you do! NYC and LA are the first cities to receive a copy of ANY film.

2.) And then of course...there's Wiechquaekeck Trail. Also known as Broadway. It wasn't named broadway until the very late 1800's, with the inventions of nickelodeon's and live Cabaret acts which eventually evolved into something known as 'the american theatre'. Broadway is where i'm headed...so watch out NYC, here i come!

and finally...

1.) NYC is the most diverse and dynamic city in the whole country. It's one of the only places in the entire world that can make you feel connected to the world.

::sigh:: ...what a beautiful city...

Shawn
