Title: Infidelity
Characters: Maureen
Prompt: 025 strangers
Word Count (if fiction): 250
Rating: PG
Summary: Maureen meets a stranger at the bar.
Disclaimer: Nope, not mine.

Maureen sat at the bar, absentmindedly stirring her half empty drink. Glancing around, she sighed. It was always the same. Pretty girls and handsome boys, grinding and meshing together on the dance floor. Maureen took solace at the local bar almost every night.

Poor Mark thought she was practicing for a play she had the lead in. It was a lie, all of it. There was no play.

But was it really poor Mark? Why not poor Maureen? No, with Mark it was poor Roger. Roger’s girlfriend kills herself and Mark is all of a sudden bending over backwards for him. It was like she didn’t exist.

No, don’t think about Mark, she told herself. Think about happy things like - hey, he’s cute.

Maureen flipped her hair and smiled as a dark haired stranger walked by. He smiled back and gave her wink. But he kept walking, right into the arms of a pretty redhead. Sighing, she focused on downing the rest of drink. Lifting the glass to her lips, she tilted it backwards, downing the remains.

“Not so fast, sweetheart,” an unfamiliar voice said. Maureen looked over as the stranger took a seat beside her. “John,” he extended a hand.

“Maureen,” she took it.

“What do you say we get out of here?”

“Sounds good,” she tossed a few bills on the bar and followed John out.

Infidelity had always been something she’d sworn away, but from here on in, it wouldn’t be so strange to her anymore.
