You'd think on a college campus, a simple cup of coffee (or, in my case, hot chocolate) would be easier to come by. First I went over to check to see if the coffee place in Atwood was open. It wasn't, which was no big surprise what with it being Sunday and not open weekends, but a girl can hope. Then I walked back over to the food hall to see if I could get in long enough to get a cup of hot chocolate and then leave without eating anything. Well, I could do that, but I'd still have to swipe my card and, therefor, pay for a full meal. The people at the "cashiers" desk informed me that Burger King back over at Atwood should be open and that they have coffee there, so I wander back over there to check. Coffee they have, but that's it, with two options - regular or decaf. While I *might* be able to bring myself to drink the super-sweetened french vanilla stuff that comes from a powder if that was available (with lots and lots of cream, at that), no way could you get me to choke down regular black coffee, no matter how much sugar or cream I put in it. At this point, though, I was kind of the opinion "Okay, I have to eat some time, so I might as well make a meal of it and go back to Garvy" - and while I did ponder briefly the possibility of sneaking in the back why when someone else comes out (which lots of people around here do anyway. Mostly freshmen boys), get my coffee/hot coco, and then leave before anyone notices, well, there's a reason I'm no good at Poker, and it's not because I haven't mastered the art of the Poker Face. I can bluff with the best of them; problem is, I'm too honest to use that talent comfortably. So, I went in and had them swipe my card (though they were kind enough to offer sympathy) and finally got my hot drink, as well as a few eggs, a sausage and a half, and some sort of french toast stick thingy that was actually quite good. And, hey, at least I got my exercise for the afternoon.
But still. College campuses, coffee - rarely do you see one without easy access to the other. Even the university in Marshfield had coffee available in the book store from 9 to 5, in the commons/cafeteria whenever the grill was open (no card swippage necessary, just cold hard cash), *and* one of those little 30 cent coffee machines available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They even had Chai tea! Granted, it was rather bad Chai tea, but still! I miss the Coffee Cabin. ::pouts::
