Working out is boring. This I have discovered quite thoroughly these past few weeks as I worked out for PhyEd. When you are working out (at least on some sort of stationary exercise machine), you have only two options to keep your brain occupied: a) you can read or B) you can listen to music. It boggles my mind how the hell anyone can do the former when they're bouncing up and down (or at least their head, and therefore their line of sight, is) on the any of the treadmills, steppers, or cross-trainers. So, that leaves me with option B, unless I want to stare blankly out the window and watch the cars drive by on McMillan (which does have it's moments, truthfully, but they are woefully few and far between).
With this in mind, I have come to the conclusion that - as pointless as I thought they would be to me before - I want an Ipod. Or at least an MP3 player of some sort that I can upload all of my songs on too (I can even ripp some of my CDs now that dad has a shiny new computer! Yay!). Currently I've been using my Walkman (yes, I realize these things are "so last decade"... They don't eat up batteries like portable CD players, *AND* you can fit more than one album onto an empty tape. CD players can only play one CD at a time. Bite me!), which works quite spiffily, but it's bulky enough that I don't really want to wear it on my waist band when I'm using the bike or cross-trainer because those require quite a bit of hip movement that I'm afraid thats going to knock it off. They do have little holders on most of the equipment for just such things as CD players or Walkmans, but I even have a bit of trouble fiting my walkman into one of those because it's so thick (those audio cassettes are just so much thicker than CDs, ya know?).
So, yes. I want an Ipod. I never ever ever thought I would want an Ipod because I rarely listen to any of my small collection of CDs as it is, much less take them with me everywhere to play on a Diskman or some such, but I want an Ipod. Or an MP3 player. Because then I can upload all my favorite CDs onto it (my 110 minute tapes only hold about two albums worth, one on each side of the cassette and seriously, cassettes take up more space than you would think) *and* be able to fit it in the spiffy holder on the machine or get one of those dorky snazzy looking arm bands to put it on.
And that random theme ended up way longer than I thought it would. Will shut up now.
