Oh, yeah, been meaning to mention this:
Went hiking with the parents on Sunday at Silver Mound. Twas fun, despite the fact we got lost searching for the rock shelter and the rock paintings since the trail leading up to them is no longer there. I got attacked by thorny bushes and scratched up my arms a bit, but it was still fun. And, I was the one who found the rock paintings after everyone else had walked by them, so YAY me! Bugs weren't too bad, surprisingly, it was only the underbrush that was bad. But, seeing as the trail hasn't been used in almost 5 years, I suppose that's to be expected. And it twas cool getting back to the rock shelter and seeing the painting again, especially since I hadn't been back since I was like 13. Also found a pretty arrow head/spear point/something not even my dad recognizes but which was definitely worked and used by the ancient Indian peoples who lived there a couple thousand years ago (we found it out in the field surrounding the mound, not on the actual site, so I wasn't doing anything illegal by keeping it). Twas much fun and I'm glad I went.
Course, I found out today that a few of my friends of mine (Beth and Jennie, at least) had been camping up there this weekend (KOA Camp Grounds is set up on the northeast? side of the hill - *very* nice camp grounds which could probably be considered more of an outdoor hotel than an actual camp ground considering there's running water at each camp site with easy access to public bathrooms/showers, a game room, and a small gift/food shop), so I probably walked right past their camp site on out way up to see the shelter. And you know something? I was *this close* to calling Beth's cell to see of she wanted to go hiking with us up there, only I didn't cause I figured she was busy like she always is, only to discover two days later that she was probably camping right in front of me and I didn't even notices. Ah, well, such is life. Guess I'll just have to find a way to drag her up there again some time when both of us realize the other is within spitting distance. :)
