Pretender - several fics by Blade Mistress
Oh, hey, I just realized that I found a bunch of actually *good* Pretender fics a few days ago and never linked them. I bow before who ever Blademistress is for managing to not only keep her head above water, but do an entire water ballet in the deep, dark (very very very dark) ocean where most Pretender fan fictions reside. Her character voices are spot on, and even though none of the stories are happy, they do leave one hell of an impression.

It's hard to tell what's real and what's nightmare in Miss Parker's world; sometimes nightmares are even preferred to real life.
Short and dark, this one gets into Parkers head like Mirror got into Jarod's. blademistress nails Parker's voice like few of the Pretender fan fictions out there seem able to do, and she definitely leaves you thinking.
Rose Colored Glasses - Blade Mistress

Another one that nails Parker's voice, and manages to say in a few words the entirety of the Parker/Jarod relationship. See how they could have been/how they could never be. I admit to being a hard-core Parker/Jarod shipper, but even if they could did get together in the end, it would never be "Happily Ever After."

Any Pretender fan could see how much Parker and Jarod loved each other, be it as best friends when they were children or something more as they got older. And, we know that neither would ever mourn the other openly because that's how they both were taught - crying is bad, and emotions have no place in this life. This fic gives us a deeper look into that silent suffering as Parker deals with the death of Jarod in her own way - the only way she's ever known.
I think there's one or two more by her on that website, but for some reason i didn't snag the links and am too lazy to go look for them now. But, should the two or three of you on my friends list who actually *watched* the series feel so inclined, go give those a look see, too. I doubt you're be disappointed. :)
