I think Nine missed us. She's been all... clingy, I guess you could call it, ever since we got home yesterday. She like... doesn't wanna be out of sight from any of us for any period of time longer then maybe 10 minutes. She even went in and checked on my parents last night after we had all gone to bed. Poor girl, now I'm even more glad that I got Jeanie to come over and check on/play with her for a bit every day. It's like she's afraid we're gonna disappear again. :)

Anyhoo, as promised:

Have any of you seen that episode of Roar in which whats-her-face is haunted by the ghost of her sister who died of leprosy? Well, if you have, think that episode, (with some lines taken straight from the script if I'm remembering correctly) only this time she haunted the two new waterslides we now have at the Y and she arrived there by taxi cab (no, I don't know why either) - that was the dream I had this morning. It is, in fact, what woke me up so bloody early.
Now think how you would feel waking up from such a dream only to discover a murky, hazy orange light coming through your window from outside with the words "red sky in the morning, sailors take warning," the first thought that runs through your head. It was... disorienting, to say the least, and I took very little comfort from the fact that the murky orange light was coming through all the rest of the upstairs windows as well as I tromped to the bleerily bathroom. I hope this isn't a bad omen for the trip. Granted, I knew it was only the light of the morning sun rise being filtered weirdly through an atmosphere so thick with moisture you can practically cut it with a knife, but still... was very creepy.

A bright and beautiful Thursday morning to ya! I've been awake since 4:10 this morning and am running on a whole two to three hours of sleep (and that's being optimistic). I crashed on the couch at Gus's apartment last night in River Falls while my parents spent the night at a hotel a few blocks away. It was very very warm at his little apartment, but I managed once I had a nice smooth bed sheet covering the rather harsh and uncomfortable couch upholstery and two fans going. It was comfortable enough, but very warm. Didn't really *sleep* much, but at least I rested.
First flight is scheduled to take off at 9:04 this morning, I think, and mom and dad are supposed to pick us up at 6 or there abouts. Motion sickness pills, here I come! (and here's hoping traffic isn't too bad, since Minneapolis Airport is about an hour away yet.)
8:29 am
- it took us three times to get the right off-off-ramp (there was the off ramp and then there was three more ramps off that) to the airport. Good thing we left early.
- got to airport only to discover our plane had been delayed an hour, which is not good because that would mean we would miss all our connecting flights, and that we had been moved up to the 8:00 flight which had just taken off. Ugh.
- Ticket counter lady found us another flight with high priority stand-by tickets, so kinda yay there
- whole family picked for the special activity of a through security check - fun! (not)
- Ate a peach fruit cup from the vending machine for breakfast - cute little spork included! Hee!
- Am now waiting for 8:55, when they will supposedly let people aboard the plane and we find out if we even *have* a place to sit.
6:39 pm CST/4:39 pm Pacific
We're waiting again. Our flight from Denver was delayed almost an hour, making us miss out connecting flight here in LA. We've been transferred from United onto American, and after a huge mix up/mess with our tickets, we're scheduled for take off at 6:05 Pacific time - which probably means we'll be taxiing down the runway by maybe 6:20.
It has been a very long day - Almost 14 hours by my internal clock - and up until about 10 minutes ago, I hadn't eaten anything more then the vending machine peaches I had this morning at around 8 CST and the little bag of pretzels they gave us on the flight from Denver. Was a very hungry Maren who spent two hours trying not to get lost in LA International Airport. But, I just shared a Ceaser Salad from Burger King with mom, so all is well enough (for the time being, at least), even if it has been rather frustrating. ::sighs::
3:54 am CST/10:54 pm Island
22 hours and three flights (two of which were late/delayed) later then when we first started out from River Falls, we're finally at the hotel. Thank. Friggin. God.
Oy, now there's a long day for you. 23 hours of running around on two hours of sleep, a fruit bowl, three bags of pretzels and half a ceaser salad. Do I even have to say how much I'm glad it's over? At least until next week, when we do the whole thing in reverse, but you get my drift.
Anyhoo, am off for some well deserved sleep before the wedding tomorrow, for which we're leaving to go try and find the place by 9, here's hoping I actually get some sleep tonight.
