So, the water slide is all installed at the Y. It takes up more then half of what little deck we had and it smells bad (like new rubber/plastic/whatever). It is also gonna require an extra three lifeguards to watch it - three lifeguards that we really don't have. I haven't tried it yet, but I guess it's really fast. I still hate the entire idea, but what can I do about it except complain about our boss. Because, ya know, there's just something wrong with a man who would spend 45 thousand dollars on a new two-story watersilde - with *none* of the aquatic staff support... in fact, we were arguing against it every step of the way - when the money would be better spent on repairs around the facility! The *entire* facility, not just the aquatics area, needs a make-over and fix up. The building is 12 years old - there is wiring that needs to be fixed, tiles that need to be replaced, filters for both pools that need to be rebuilt, a broken special needs chair in the small pool that needs to be replaced because it's covered with sharp edges and rusted metal and a whole slew of other stuff that needs to be dealt with. And that doesn't even count all the new family areas that we hope to put in upstairs: a parent/tot room where parents can take their little kids to romp around on mats and stuff and a teen room with a pool and ping pong table, arcade games, etc. The simple matter of it is we are outgrowing out facility, and the money that we just bloody spent on a 45,000 water slide that *no one* but the boss-man seems to like (including most patrons, not just the staff) could be much better spent expanding and updating our facilities!

The YMCA used to be a nice place where I loved to go and hang out when I was little, and I have been loyal to that place from it's beginnings... Hell, I've been loyal to the place since before it even opened! And I've been more then happy to work there, even for such shotty pay, for 4 years because as much as I do complain, I really do like my job. But ya know, ever since big boss Brent showed up, I've been itching to get away from him and all his bloody stupid plans. And I know I'm not the only one.
