Labyrinth fic last night. I only just got the chance to started reading it today. And so far I am really enjoying it, despite the face that it's technically romance. ;)
It takes place after the movie, referring back to it on a regular basis, but I still think people who haven't ever seen the movie would really enjoy it. And people who have seen the movie and loved it will enjoy it all the more.
~ the snowy owl pretty much refers to Jareth in his animal form, Jareth being the Goblin King that had the hots for Sarah in the movie to the point where he kidnapped her baby brother, Toby, to bring her to his world.
~Sarah. Then she was a 15 year old, incredibly sheltered child who made the mistake of accidentally 'asking' the what she then believed to be imaginary Goblin King to come take her crying, snot-nosed baby half brother, Toby, off her hands. Unfortunately, he did, and she was sent into the world of her favorite book, titled, go figure, The Labyrinth. There she had 13 hours to get to the castle and take her baby brother back home before he was turned into a goblin... at which point there wasn't a chance of saving him.
~Hoggle and Sir Didymus are two of the people, well... characters at least, who helped Sarah in the movie. Didymus was a fox (think an older, a lot shorter, snarkier/goofier version of Robin Hood from the Disney cartoon) and Hoggle I believe is a dwarf. There was also a giant reddish, simple-minded beast named Ludo in the movie, but he hasn't shown up in the fic yet. He might later on, but so far I'm only about half way through cause it's a rather long fic.
~The Labyrinth. The heart of Jareth's kingdom. Sarah had to find her way though it in order to get to the Goblin City, and eventually Jareth's castle where Toby was being held.
and that's pretty much all you really need to know to understand it, or at least so far that's all you would really have to know. There are a few other sorta inside jokes, like in one of his tricks, Jareth sent Sarah a funky peach in hopes of getting her off track on her adventure to get her baby brother. The peach was supposed to make her forget and trap her in some sort of dream spell (in this case, the 'dream' being a costume ball of some sort where she had something of a moment with Jareth') until the time she had to get Toby ran out. Also, a line Sarah uses in the fic, "You no longer have any power over me," was the key line to setting her free from Jareth's world and getting her back home in the movie, with Toby.
There are probably other things worth mentioning to lessen the confusion if you do read the fic, but I can't think of any at the moment.
http://www.astrolog.org/labyrnth/movie.htm might give you more information on it if you're really interested, which I'm sure few of you will be, but hey... nothing wrong with overdoing it on occasion. :D
Anyways, so far it's a great story. Even if you've never seen the movie, I'm sure those of you who occasionally share my brain ::looks pointedly at Emma and people from the Shippers list :: will at least enjoy it to some degree. Course, I might be slightly biased since Labyrinth is one of my all time favorite movies... :D
And I am gonna shut up now. :D
