Fic Rec Dump - Avengers

Nov 28, 2013 19:40

I have been avoiding this. My fic recs folder is rather daunting at the moment, and even with Semagic to do most of the work for me, all that htmling takes awhile and I am by nature a very, very lazy person, even when it comes to sharing my Number One, I've Literally Wasted Weeks If Not Months Of My Life Reading This Stuff, Lazy Activity - reading fan fiction.

Alas, however, the longer I put it off, the more daunting it becomes, and the less inclined I am to go through and html the shit out everything, so post I shall! Lest I catch myself in my very own self-imposed Catch 22.

So... Avengers fics! Because despite taking a "break" a few months back, the fandom just keeps right on sucking me back in.

Love is for Children, but We Live in a Fairytale Anyway by Black Rook. For more than an hour Natasha'd been staring at one particular face, tracing familiar features with her fingers. Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes. Steve’s Bucky. In another time and place also known as Winter Soldier.

Straight On 'Til Morning by arsenicarcher. Thor and Jane are having a baby. Tony's conflicted about the whole thing.
(I have an Asguardian Princess named after me. Boo-ya! Okay, so probably not really, but still. It was a weirdly jarring experience, actually... especially when my notnamesake was burped by a Superhero)

court and spark by irnan. The Avengers vs. Dates. The romantic kind, not the fruit. (Although rumour has it that Bruce is deathly allergic to those, which is why there aren't any in the Tower, like, anywhere. Imagine having to give the Hulk antihistamines.)

Extra Credit by Jadzia_Bear. Darcy Lewis makes a horrifying discovery--Captain America has no idea what an ipod is. She rectifies this situation. Also, other things happen.

Dreaming Electric by jukeboxhound. New York City is still rebuilding in the wake of the Chitauri army when the biotech virus Extremis is released, upgrading a lone domestic terrorist into a posthuman threat. Tony would’ve been happy to keep going on playing with alien tech in his lab, saving average citizens as Iron Man, and pretending not to notice these other people moving into his tower, but sometimes a person just can’t have nice things.

A little bit of your taste (in my mouth) by ellievolia and sirona. Coffee Shop AU. In which Clint owns the coffee shop that makes the best damn coffee Phil has ever tasted, and things only go downhill from there.

Alliterative Domiciles series by Vera (previously Vera_DragonMuse). Domestic Avengers! Paired with a little bit of whump and a whole lot of fluff. Also, a bunch of other stuff too.

Damage Limitation by Selenay. The author summarizes the series thus: It started with a cliche "weird pollen made them do it" standalone story and morphed into a series. Oops. Also, if I'm remembering my stories correctly, it could also be summarized with, "The Avengers make their PR managers cry."

Ready, Fire, Aim 'Verse by gyzym.
In which Tony and Steve fight a lot. And then they eventually stop fighting quite so much and maybe sort of start liking each other. Also, Bruce/Hulk is a bit more of a background character, but I kind of love it every time he gets mention. Or falls through a ceiling.
“Captain America," he says, "is a dick.”

Then he notices the table full of investors.

“Uh,” says Tony, “wow, okay. Uh. Well then. Good morning--is it morning? It's hard to tell in the whole, you know, basement of doom they've got going on at--uh, nevermind. Right, so, great to see everyone, any chance I can convince you this was a training exercise?"

Pepper sighs, pinches the bridge of her nose, and waves a hand in Tony’s general direction.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” she says, “Tony Stark.”

Like a Prayer by Asidian. Tony is definitely not the praying type, so no one is more surprised than he is when in a moment of fairly immediate doom, his prayers are actually answered... albeit not by the god he was expecting, nor by one he would've picked to rescue him given the choice. But hey, beggars and choosers and all that.

But I Will Hold On Hope (And I Won't Let You Choke) by Perpetual Motion. In which Clint is not the emotionally stunted one, plays pretty well with others, and Sitwell is a foul-mouthed matchmaker against his will.

Before the Storm, There is Peace by scifigrl47. "This is nothing we were ever trained for."

If you have to die, die fighting. If you have to fall, fall because you were standing for something. And if you have to face impossible odds, you might as well do it with someone who knows just how impossible they are, but has your back anyway.

Or; only an ex would ask you why.

And just to switch it up a bit, here are some more Iron Man-centric stories! Though the Avengers still pretty much show up regularly in all of them.

The Saga of Hug Fortress by theorytale. Prompt: One of the Avengers (let's face it, probably Tony) quips to Loki that he didn't get enough hugs as a child, not realising what a raw nerve that is. Cue epic meltdown (anger or upset, either is good.)
Loki is unstable. Tony is a genius. Together, they fight crime still don't like each other very much. There might be some benefit in alternative tactics.

ETA May 2016 - Soooo. First one is super awkward with a Loki that is not even a little bit believable based on the last...erm... Well. Any of the movies after the first Thor, really. Just, you know, fair warning.

And then we have Agents of SHIELD fic! Hard to go wrong there!

Six times Melinda May spent time with a member of the Avengers Initiative. Title pretty much says it all. It is, however, locked so that only registered AO3 users can read it, so FYI. Totally, absolutely worth it, though.

Stick the Landing by lokei. Episode Tag: 1x6, FZZT

Fitz dreams of falling. Even in his dream he knows it’s not supposed to be him, that he wasn’t the one midair, in the inexorable grip of gravity until being snatched by the even more determined grip of Agent Grant Ward.

But still, he falls.

Lastly, there is this Iron Man crossover with Batman (Nolan 'verse) story, because Yes.

The Billionaire Boys Club by freakyperfume. Tony always thought it was better to ask forgiveness rather than permission. When he meets Bruce Wayne, he plays it by his own rules-that is to say: none at all.

And it's done! Huzzah, go me! Well, except for the two non-avengers (or avengers related) stories that are still in my fic recs folder, but those'll be saved for another time because did I mention I'm lazy?

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it! And a lovely Thursday/Friday for the rest of the world!

avengers, fluff, iron man, agents of shield, fic recs
