Started my new job today working as an archivist sort of person for AIG. They're in the process of converting all their policy accounts from paper to digital, so I'm one of the worker bees who organizes the account folders and gets to read through a few hundred pages of insurance policies and amendments and make it a little shorter (like, 1-4 pages or so, though most of that is just noting amendments # and renewals policies over the course of the accounts documented life) and a lot less tedious. My job is still kind of tedious, mind, but it actually isn't all that bad (so far, at least) - my source files are scanned documents, NOT spreadsheets, for which I am extremely grateful, and the Notes sheet I'm in charge of updating is just a simple enough Word Document. Way easier to plow through than all the number punching I was doing for my sedimentology internship in 2009. Not as much fun as my digitizing and map updating at Ice Harbor, but beggars can't be choosers, and at least our cubical forest is in a building with lots of windows that is apparently fairly eco-friendly to boot, so I'll take it.

aig, job search, work
