Memorial Day Weekend

May 28, 2012 21:01

First off, thank you to all those who have served and given everything for our freedom. Honored Memorial Day 2012!

Decided to crash my friend Emily's holiday weekend yesterday. We took her dogs to the dog park for a few hours, grabbed some grub at one of the family restaurants that had just reopened (I got the taco salad and it was quite tasty), then went looking for Avengers. Unfortunately, the next showing was two and a half hours and neither of us really wanted to wait around that long - it was kind of hot and muggy outside and there isn't much to entertain oneself in Wausau on a Sunday afternoon - so we headed back to her place for a movie marathon. Watched Ghostbusters and The Lion King and talked with her sister a bit before crashing around 10:30ish, which I do believe is the earliest we have ever gone to bed when we've gotten together.

I was up at 7:30 and spent the morning checking LJ and Facebook and catching up on my Hulu queue while Emmies did her own computer stuff. Exciting we are not, but that's what the internet is for. ;) Only down side is I ended up slipping on the stairs when I went down to get some water and gashed my hand pretty good on some sharp edge. The cut is in one of the most inconvenient spots for Band-Aids, in the meaty part of my hand right below the pinky, so I also have it wrapped up in about two layers of first aid tape. Klutzes of the world Wrap Up! ;)

As I didn't feel like braving the interstate on Memorial Day Monday, when I headed home around noonish/1pm I took the back roads. I think I might stick with them from now on - my car is not built for speed (1996 Geo Tracker. Basically, a box on wheels) and it was nice not having to dodge around crazy drivers. Also, way prettier scenery.

Called the 'rents about half way back to see if they were doing a cookout because I was hungry and I had been meaning to head out there and pick up a few more odds and ends for the move. They were indeed and as all I had to look forward to in my own cupboards was a bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats, I thought burgers and brats sounded waaaaay better, so I spent the rest of my afternoon catching up with Mom and Dad. Played with the new chick and watched the Hatfield/McCoys episode of American Pickers before calling it a weekend and heading back home around 6:00ish.
