Thanksgiving Comes First - Day 1

Nov 06, 2010 19:34

In order to continue the Thanksgiving Comes First trend, I am going to try and write one entry per day until November 25 on something I am either grateful for or on some cherished Thanksgiving memory or story.

Today, I'll start with a bit of memory.

Thanksgiving 2007 )

This reminds me of my Thanksgiving last year. John, my boyfriend, has similar wheat issues which we discovered a little over a year ago. We've been trying numerous gluten-free recipes since (and we have a really good corn bread one if you think your dad may be interested). We decided to make and bring some gluten-free dinner rolls. They weren't bad per se, but... interesting. Almost everyone tried one and were really nice about it. I can't decide if they were trying to be polite or really agreed that they were alright.

It was kind of the same thing with the brownies. My dad actually claimed that they weren't that bad once you knew what to expect (I think it was more the surprise factor that got my uncle and cousin), and beggars can't be choosers in that kind of situation.

Sadly, the gluten free thing didn't pan out as well as we hoped - he still gots randomly sick with abdominal issues and cramping and is stuck in bed for days at a time, even when he had been very good at watching the wheat content. Now we think it might be a yeast allergy, but we still aren't sure and he still has episodes. None of the three doctors he's gone to the last few years has any clue, either.
