::snort::
So, this is the episode where Daniel's old archeology prof ends up dying and Daniel's old flame ends up being possessed by Osiris. Toward the end, after they've discovered that the Egyptian amulate that went missing is over 10,000 years old - proving Daniel's theory and causing him to make the "Oh, crap!" face - there is a scene with Daniel in the museum storage room (or whatever it is called) "doing more research" as he claims when Sara walks in, when in reality he was using some Super Snazzy SGC Gizmo to scan the artifacts. The gizmo that was supposed to look all snazzy and high tech? Is a Garmin GPS hand unit circa the early 2000, I think (I'd put money on 2000 or 2001, when the episode first aired). I know because I have one almost exactly like it, and yes, it is a rather snazzy gizmo in and of itself, but it most certainly cannot be used to scan ancient objects for... whatever it was Daniel was scanning for. About all it could do is mark the GPS coordinates where the ancient artifact was found and then lead you back to where you parked your car. ;)
I am way more amused by this than I really should be. ::snickers like mad:: I am so a Geoscience geek.
ETA 10 minutes later - And then they go off to follow Steven to Egypt and in the truck in the middle of the desert Sam says "According to the GPS, we still have 10 miles" and I crack up again and wonder if Sam is using the same Garmin GPS unit that Daniel was using to "scan'" the artifacts for naquidah (only spelled right).
