I am rereading the Immortals series by Tamora Pierce - yeah, I know, the series is written for young adults or adolescents, but in my defense I bought the series when I *was* a young adult, just as the books were coming out 12 or so years ago, and I still heart the series like woah even if it is so very obviously written for a younger audience - ( Read more... )

I still haven't read the Alanna series, even though it has been my intention basically since I finished The Immortals. Also hoped to read the third series - Protector of the Small, I think - but haven't gotten around to that, either. Mostly because I can't really afford the box sets like I want - books are all expensive now; where as back in 1997/1998, each book of the Immortals series only cost me 5 dollars, now the same books cost 7 bucks each, and I'm not sure they even make box sets anymore. Sadness.

As for the plot bunny, it started off as a prompt from yeeeeeears and years ago in the Tamora Pierce community I joined (and haven't read since) using quotes from the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The quote I was going to make use of is "I'll show you the meaning of pain," "You want pain? Try wearing a corset!" lines, in which Diane (along with all the other Ladies of Tortall) is squished unwillingly into corsets in order to impress visiting nobles, and then at some point the castle is invaded and Diane ends up whacking one of the Bad Guys with one of those tall, fancy, standing candle holders.

That's not all of it, but the rest is too long to post in a comment. I can send you the outline I wrote last night if you really want to know. ;)

If you don't mind reading on the computer I know where you can get access to a copy of the Alanna series and the Protector of the Small set too.

LOL! I absolutely cannot see Alanna being bullied into wearing a corset! Poor Daine would last maybe an hour! Would be hilarious! :)
