Today I:
* Worked from 10 until 2:30, where I discovered that the guy hired to start remodeling the Geology lab (where I'm working for the most part) moved the counter that the furnace is on without being careful. The furnace was, of course, full of 36 sediment samples that were cooling off after the 550 burn (to get rid of all the organic material), and because any kind of label (even permanent marker) will burn off at such high temps, they were very meticulously set up in a very specific order that was completely and utterly destroyed when the counter was moved. Which means we now have to redo all 36 samples, which consists of at least 2 hours to collect, 12 hours to dry, and 4 hours to combust at 550. Neither myself nor Sam - the professor I'm working with - was at all happy about this. On the bright side, at least I'll have another person helping me as of tomorrow, which will hopefully cut down on the time consumption at least a little bit.
* Got money from Jason to pick up 4 tickets to tomorrow's 6:30 showing of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. This made my day considerably brighter. TRANSFORMERS FOR THE WIN!
* Gave in and got a Chicken Selects combo at McDonald's, which went on my credit card cause I can't afford to take it out of my checking account. I know, bad Maren. But it was super hot (high temp got up to 95 degrees today, and I don't even want to consider what the heat index was) and what little food I actually have here at the house would've required cooking in some way, shape, or form, so I figure it was worth it.
* Went to Plover to meet with a possible roommate and see the house. For 350 a month plus utilities, I could basically have my own apartment in the lower level - the only things we'd be sharing is the kitchen and the garage. The girl seems nice, though it appears that we don't have much in common, and I would be able to walk to 5 Star Bowling lanes, which would be awesome. However, while I am pretty sure I could afford it for the summer months, I'm not sure I could afford it for the winter months, which is what made my checking account hurt so much here (there were three or four months where it still cost both of us more than 100 dollars each to cover utilities). It is a possibility, though. Also, she has a dog! So I'm keeping my options open.
