Spring 2009 semester starts

Jan 20, 2009 11:07

Am on campus. Have another two hours before my next class, and since it's the first day, we have no homework as of yet. So, I am amusing myself by putzing around online.

Alas, the dred Chem starts tomorrow, not today as I had thought because I keep thinking it's Monday. I have, however, had my first Mineralogy/Petrology class and my first GIS I class.

Spring Semester - Day 1
9:00am-9:50am - Mineralogy (Lab Tue 1:00pm-2:50-pm)
I'm a bit worried about this class since it has been forever since had Geol 120/104 (depending on what school you go by - it was 120 in St. Cloud where I took it, it transferred over as 104 here in Point) and I am extremely rusty on my rocks. Actually, I never really got around to *memorizing* all the rocks cause Al gave us a cheat sheet for the rock test in St. Cloud. Hopefully there will be a bunch of review, otherwise I'm probably going to have to dig through all my old school supplies and try and find aforementioned cheat sheet.

However, I'm not quite as anxious about this class as I had been since 1) I've had the teacher before, and he's pretty laid back, 2) all that labs will be done in groups, and we already have the answer sheet to check our work, and 3) the dred New York Times Weekly Article Discussion/Chapter Discussion on D2L has been booted, so I hopefully don't have to worry about forgetting to post (which is what happened last time I took a class with Kevin). Still have no idea what to expect, but now my mindset is more "This might be fun" as compared to "This is probably going to suck, even if the topic is interesting". We shall see.

10:00am-10:50am - GIS I (Lab Mon 1:00pm-3:00pm)
On the one hand, it is taught by Dr. Rice, who really knows what he's doing and has an extremely neat, detailed, and easy to understand lab manual that gives you step-by-step directions. On the other hand, there are 10 labs all together and each one is probably going to take anywhere from 3 to 5 hours to finish. Not really looking forward to this class, but it will give me an additional leg up when it comes to finding a job.

Aaaand I still have an hour and a half to kill. ::misses her Stumble!::
