My cousin T invited me to go with her to visit our grandparents in Ripon this weekend. Left yesterday morning around 8:30 and just got back now. It was a lot of fun; I got to catch up with Gramma and Grampa, learned how to play Dominoes (Train), got a tasty home cooked meal, and got to hang out with my cousin a lot.
Oh! And we also went to this *awesome* used book place that this sweet little old lady had set up. The Book Lodge was the initial store, which is pretty much a huge shed full of used books with very little rhyme or reason to the melee, but that is one of the best parts about Used Book Stores - finding "hidden" treasures! But the second, newer building was even cool - it was an old silo that her husband decorated to look like a *castle*, which was also full of books, and myself, T, Gramma and our Aunt Ann literally spent three hours there drooling over books. Both buildings were huge, and I found myself an old leather bound version of Robin Hood and a book of Original Fairy Tales that had some really amazing illustrations in it. We didn't quite stay there until closing time, but it was close. :D
Once we got back to the house, both T and I spent a few hours reading while Grampa and Gramma watched Jepordy and Wheel of Fortune. Later on in the evening I put on Get Smart, which I brought along because I thought Gramma might be interested. It was just as funny the second time around. Gramma had a few good laughs in there, too. She thought the movie over all was just way too outrageous for her to enjoy it as throughly as me and T did, but she really loved all of the one-liners.
Got very little sleep last night. The mattress in the guest room I was using is extremely worn out and you could feel each and every spring, not to mention it sagged worse than Bra-less Really Old Lady Boobs (as in, old ladies that never got around to wearing a bra even when they became available, and now have boobs down to their belly button), so I tossed and turned on that sucker until 3:30 this morning before I gave up and moved into the other guest room (Gramma had 5? 6? kids, so she has three "guest" bedrooms now that Mom and all her brothers and sisters are old and grown and out of the house with kids and grandchildren of their own now). There I finally slept at least a little bit (or at least enough to give myself some weird dreams), but after three nights without a lot of sleep, it's starting to ware on me a bit. Enough so that when Gramma, T, and I were playing Dominos this morning before going to brunch, both of them were laughing at my inability to count or to keep track of which direction we were going for turns.
We all went out for brunch around in Berlin this morning around 11. T and I left from the resturant and then proceeded to almost get lost on the way back to Point. We weren't really *lost* lost, but we did end up taking an unplanned detour into the Wide Woodlands of Wisconsin and spent about forty five minutes on some Very Curvy And Hilly County roads, enough so that I was starting to regret not taking my car sick pills this morning, but not enough to ruin the pretty scenery.
It was still lots of fun, though, and I'm really glad I took the opportunity to take T up on her offer of a ride.
Also, gave me two days in which to spend several hours reading completely guilt-free. After starting it last night, I am already more than half way through a Secret Garden re-read.
