I worked from 9 to 2 in the pm. I ran a mile in 7.5 minutes. Yeah, not too impressive, but it's the best I've been able to continuosly do. I wonder how fast I can do it outdoors though. Music is amazing. Once I get the right track blaring between my ears I can go on forever. Afterward, I hit the cybex machines as a warm up to the weightroom.
I worked on my scrawny arms, my barely developing shoulders and my becoming ever more chisled abs before I took a break. I flew up the five stories to move my truck, parked it, talked to John about maybe becoming a trainer at the Y. I could see myself doing that, the maybe in a few more months? I don't look terribly impressive now but I'm getting there.
I went into Yoga. Tuned everyone and everything out for an hour, felt like I was in there for an eternity. Prayed for someone to fart, it didn't come, but maybe next time.
After Yoga I decided to do something I'd been putting off for a long time: returned to the Kodenkan. I wanted to see their new set up. I wanted to see some old faces, I wanted to go back to a time when none of this shit was on my shoulders. I wanted to go back to where I was before Jacqueline, before Dodgeball, before the decline in school and study. When I had promise and everything was great.
I drove around the way east part of town until I finally found the place. I'd never seen so many black shirted with green mantis shirts in my career as a practitioner of Northern Shaolin Praying Mantis Kung Fu. I was impressed. I tried to sneak in, didn't make it very far as I saw Barbara. Now a green sash she was pleased to see me and I was to see her as well. We caught up briefly and I saw Mary, black sash now and teaching the class. Sadly, she only started a month before I did way back when. After several more "Steve's here!" and "Hey stranger!" I was able to catch up with a few more friends o mine.
No sign of Chris or Jake though and that kind of made me wonder if they had moved on. New faces, pride of partaking in something mildly atheletic and visually pleasing, I guess you can try it for self defense...hope your fast and powerful though and god help you if you are taken to the ground... A few heavy set girls fooling around with a bo staff, how I love the intellectual front face. "I know I'm not attractive, but I'll act like that doesn't bother me by overcompensating with the mental abilities." Got a few weird looks from them. "Who is this guy that just showed up out of no where, this stanger that obviously has a passed?"
Whatever.
I see Chris finally, it's hard to explain, Chris is good, but he knows he's good and he's good at making it known that he knows he's good. And I like to take that away from people from time to time. We spar and it gets to the point where it's so quick I have to rely on what I feel he's going to do in order to block, parry or dodge and of course, counter. "You're alive!" he says as he sees me there. Ha ha, yeah, because the life I live is so dangerous. It's good to see you too Chris.
Jake is returning in a month. I'm really looking forward to that. Jake was awesome. Jake was the type of guy that knows every single type of kung fu movie ever invented but can do just about everything, especially the flashy stuff. One time, Jake and I were sparring and he was so fast with his hands that I got into a weird mental state where I somehow knew what was coming before it came. Kareena saw it and said it was ridiculous how fast we were going. I wonder if I'll get that back.
Those few hours catching up with everyone and reliving passed good experiences was excellent and I think I might come back for good this time.
