As my family comes together at my house tomorrow for Thanksgiving, I rethink the concept of home... what it means... what it should mean... and the gap between the two.

The concept of the afterlife as being the primary "goal" of this life is something that I find to be largely missing in Scripture. It's something almost unknown in the First Covenant, and even Jesus tends to mention the afterlife only in passing. It's something that awaits us, true, but it isn't "eternal life". Eternal life is what we have right now; it's what we yearn for as we realize that we're squandering the inheritance that God has already given to us. We want to be home now, because we know that the gifts that God has given us allow us to be there now, if we only will do our part ( ... )

I understand. I think I managed to not stay on the point of being with God here, instead of 'physically being with God in heaven.'

We are eternal beings... we don't start being such when we die. Good point.
