Role Model?

I don't think I've ever had one.

My mother was a scientist, but I didn't become one to be like her. I wanted to know how things worked, and why, and to a certain extent she showed me how to find out, but the things I could learn from her, or from my professors, or even from the scientific elite of the day were always confined to one field, one realm of thought.

In the long run, that meant I had a lot of people I looked up to, over the time I was alive, but no one I wanted to emulate. The closest example of someone I wanted to be like was Leonardo da Vinci, and even then only in his technical skills and the breadth of spectrum his work covered.

I don't think my current position ever existed before I created it- so a role model now is rather out of the question. Besides, the point of becoming an individual, an adult, is to be yourself.

And really, no one ever got it right enough to be worth following their mistakes- and my own are always much more interesting!!
