Torchwood and Captain Jack...

...have been much on my mind lately. I've read dozens of stories (a few gems, mostly pretty bad, alas), searched out interviews with the cast (ok, mainly with JB), added icons, saved dozens of pictures, and lost several hours to YouTube watching songvids, interviews, and clips. A few thoughts--

Favorite episodes (and, IMO, the best 3) are Captain Jack Harkness, They Keep Killing Suzie, and Greeks Bearing Gifts. Worst episode: Random Shoes.

Favorite Team Member after Jack: Toshiko
Least Favorite Team Member: Gwen

While theoretically I approve of Captain Jack being omnisexual and sleeping with anything and anyone who catches his eye, in reality I have zero interest in watching him with a woman. If the rumours about him having a girlfriend in Seaon 2 are true, I will be greatly disappointed. Partly it's the slasher in me, of course - I always prefer to see two men together - and partly it would just feel wrong, after the Doctor and the real CJH and Ianto; but mostly it just seems like pandering to the lowest common denominator. Gosh, some people are upset/offended seeing Jack kiss boys? Quick, let's give him a girlfriend! It's just so, I don't know, trite.

Not expressing myself very well here, but perhaps some of you understand what I mean.

One last thought. Of the we-like-Jack-with-guys fans, there seem to be 3 distinct groups: Jack/Doctor, Jack/Ianto, and Jack/Jack. Put me firmly in the last group. I've already worked out 2 or 3 ways they could be together, LOL. What is it about doomed, star-crossed lovers that always makes me want to give them a happy ending? Nonetheless, that's the relationship that seems most real to me. The connection between them so strong, so beautiful...I truly believe it was love.

Some have a lifetime, some just a day
Love isn't something you measure that way
Love is never forever
Forever's a lie
All we have is the time 'tween hello and goodbye
