recs: Yes, paintedspires is still going on

May 17, 2008 14:01

It's time for another round of
paintedspires  recs. Seriously, if you haven't been checking out the art by now, you're missing out. However, these are some of my faves from the past few weeks.

" Seasons in Atlantis" by
_phoon_  - Yeah, this is my favorite piece so far, and that's saying a lot because there's a lot of awesome art. However, I'm partial to Mucha's style and the art nouveau theme. However, this piece is great on top of the aforementioned qualities. All the team members are so well done, and the likenesses and designs fit them perfectly.

"Auguries of Innocence" by
mortari  - A very beautiful montage of images, interpreting a William Blake poem.

"Muppet: Atlantis" by
astridv  - Ok, this one just wins for humor alone. Go look. You'll see. (and there are icons!)

"Sheppard & Steampunk!Puddlejumper" by
ratcreature  - The creativity in this piece is excellent as well as the artist's skill with using traditional media, in this case, acrylics.

"the team, the family" by
rimorob  - This entry wins for cuteness and achievement in hair rendering, especially of John and Ronon.

" Mate in Three" by
sharky_chan - Rodney is proved wrong, in sequential format to to boot. :)

"Knowing is Half the Battle" by
calcitrix  - Someone made the mistake of teaching Ronon how to play basketball. I like the relative expressions of the characters involved, and the background looks really good. I suck at perspective, so I can really appreciate this.

I hope you enjoy these and leave comments and encourage the artists so we can get more of this amazing work in the future. :)

While I'm at it, I suppose I'll suggest some good fic I've read as well:

" Almost Like Home" (G) by
funkyinfishnet  - An interesting take on what Atlantis may be like when they finally cure Carson.

" Mend" (PG) by
minnow1212  - I found this story by way of
pentapus ' John/Teyla recs and I really liked it, so I thought I'd pass it along. It's from Ronon's POV, and done really well in that regard, which is also a plus as far as my liking goes.

"The Cutting Edge" (PG-13) by
greenconverses  - Ok, I can't describe the glee I feel at this author undertaking this particular AU that is based on one of my favorite movies.

"Gentle Transition" by
sezjara - Her first R/K fic. I like it a lot.
