Summary:SungGyu's got a crush and WooHyun loves to tease about it...
This is for
dizzy_grace because I love and adore her and it was written on one of my dull doorguard shifts at work...hehehe
“Gyu Hyung, I’m pretty sure that the dogs won’t appreciate being given cat food,” WooHyun pointed out dryly, somewhat amused by the startled expression on his best friend’s face; an expression that he’d been seeing more and more lately.
Looking at the food he had just been about to pour, SungGyu sighed before putting the bag down and picking up the dog food instead.
“So what’s her name?”
SungGyu nearly dumped the entire bag at WooHyun’s question. “Bwuh?!”
“The girl that’s got you so screwed up in the head. What’s her name?” WooHyun clarified, leaning over the counter of the small petshop his friend worked at.
“There is no girl, Hyun ah,” SungGyu stated, rolling his eyes in annoyance once he got over the shock of the random question.
“Sorry,” WooHyun apologized.
“Accepted,” SungGyu replied as he went back to work.
“What’s his name?”
SungGyu wondered if he would get fired for decking a ‘customer’.
------------------------------
“So let me get this straight,” WooHyun began. “This guy whose name you don’t know keeps showing up, looking at the kittens, then leaving?”
SungGyu nodded.
“He’s hot.”
Nod.
“Killer body.”
Nod.
“Smile to die for.”
Nod nod.
WooHyun slammed his hands down onto the counter and shot to his feet. “Then why have you not asked him out yet?!” he demanded.
SungGyu just placed his head on the counter and wondered what he did wrong to deserve having Nam WooHyun as a best friend.
------------------------------
“Hyun ah, are you seriously going to come here every day until he shows up?” SungGyu asked, already irritated and it hadn’t even been an hour yet since WooHyun showed up.
“Yup,” WooHyun stated with a grin.
“Don’t you have a girlfriend to shower with your greasiness or something?”
SungGyu had to snicker when WooHyun pursed his lips in annoyance.
“I’m between girls right now.”
“Meaning you got dumped,” the older man teased, enjoying watching his friend pout like a child.
“Um,” a voice began from behind the two. Stopping their argument, the pair turned to see who spoke and SungGyu’s heart nearly stopped.
Especially when WooHyun quietly whistled under his breath.
------------------------------
“Talk to him,” WooHyun urged.
“About what? I’m just an employee and I’ve used the “Do you need any help, Sir?” spiel every day for the last two weeks,” SungGyu answered tersely.
Shaking his head, WooHyun gave SungGyu a look that made him want to run for the hills before getting up and walking right over to SungGyu‘s crush.
All SungGyu could do was look down and pray for the ground to swallow him up.
------------------------------
“Hey.”
Pausing just before his hand touched the kitten’s head, the stranger looked up to see WooHyun.
“Hey,” he returned with a friendly smile before returning most of his attention back to the playful kittens.
WooHyun reached out and began tweaking another’s ears. “These little guys really seem to like you,” he remarked.
The stranger laughed lightly. “Well the feeling’s mutual.”
“I don’t mean to pry or anything, but you seem to come here an awful lot to visit them.” WooHyun paused. “Oh, I’m WooHyun, by the way.” He then pointed back toward SungGyu, who let out a quiet squeak and went about pretending that he wasn’t staring at the two. “That’s SungGyu.”
“I’m DongWoo,” he introduced before going quiet. It took a minute before DongWoo spoke again, apparently finding WooHyun somewhat trustworthy.
“Not much to tell, really. Told the cheating ex to go to hell, moved out of our place, and got one of my own,” DongWoo explained. “It’s kind of lonely there, but I can’t afford a pet yet.”
“Wow that sucks,” WooHyun muttered sympathetically.
“Don’t I know it,” DongWoo agreed with a chuckle, yelping as one of the kittens bit a little too hard while playing. Smiling, DongWoo scratched her head and when she started purring, a small laugh slipped from his lips.
“You know,” SungGyu began before he realized what he was doing, and WooHyun had to laugh at the deep blush he was sporting. “We’re a small mom and pop store. I’m sure the owner wouldn’t mind if you maybe bought one in payments,” he suggested.
“Seriously?!” DongWoo exclaimed, eyes bright. “You aren’t just jerking me around, right?”
SungGyu took a moment to both remind himself to breathe after seeing that smile and dragging his mind out of the gutter from the question’s phrasing before he nodded. “She’ll have to stay here until then, but you can always just keep doing what you’ve been and just visit.”
“Sounds good to me,” DongWoo replied with an emphatic nod.
“If you want to leave your name and number, I’ll have the owner call you to set something up.”
Nodding his head, DongWoo pulled a card out of his wallet and handed it to SungGyu with a smile. Looking down at it, both WooHyun and SungGyu’s brows quirked in interest.
“Freelance choreographer?” WooHyun asked.
“Yeah. My friend Hoya suggested it when I moved here,” DongWoo explained, reddening slightly. “He told me there are a lot of opportunities here.”
Trying not to laugh at just how adorable his friend’s crush was, WooHyun just settled on a smile. “Well I have to get going, so I’ll just leave you in Gyu Hyung’s extremely capable hands.”
Not even waiting for a response from either party, WooHyun waved goodbye and shot a “Nice to meet you!” to DongWoo before leaving. As the door closed behind him, he knew that SungGyu was either cursing WooHyun’s existence, thanking his lucky stars, or a good combination of both.
------------------------------
“So any progress?” WooHyun asked the week after SungGyu finally spoke to his dream guy. “And I mean aside from having his card in your wallet, because to be honest, that’s kind of stalkerish and creepy.”
“Says the guy who took the card and snuck it into my wallet in the first place,” SungGyu pointed out.
WooHyun just shrugged. “Tomato, tomahto, now answer the question.”
“Define progress,” SungGyu asked vaguely.
“Did you invite him to dinner and have him stay for breakfast?” WooHyun clarified, his smile widening when SungGyu dropped the bag of litter that he was trying to stock.
“WooHyun!” SungGyu cried, turning the deepest red WooHyun could ever remember him turning.
When he suddenly lost all the color he had just gained, WooHyun tilted his head at him. “What?” SungGyu just pointed behind him and WooHyun didn’t even need to turn around to know what was wrong.
“Um…”
------------------------------
“Well this is awkward,” WooHyun stated, having the decency to at least pretend to be apologetic at the murderous glare shot his way by his possible soon to be former best friend.
DongWoo had yet to stop blushing, not even able to look SungGyu in the eye. That only resulted in an even angrier SungGyu because he loved the dancer’s eyes(‘and everything else,’ WooHyun liked to tease).
“So I may have given you the wrong impression earlier,” WooHyun finally began.
“That SungGyu Hyung likes me?” DongWoo asked, surprisingly matter-of-fact for someone who was blushing so deeply just a few seconds ago.
WooHyun just waved a hand lazily. “Oh no, that’s true. Boy’s head over heels in like with you,” he answered, ignoring his friend whining as the older boy dropped his head into the hand that was propped up on the counter. “I meant that he’d never just try to get you into bed on the first date or anything.”
“Oh,” DongWoo replied quietly, seemingly deep in thought.
“Yeah,” SungGyu muttered.
“How about on the third date?”
“Yeah,” SungGyu repeated before he stopped, finally processing what DongWoo had just said. Blinking a few times, he turned to WooHyun to see the younger man looking as shocked as he was for a change. “Um, what?”
DongWoo just smiled. “Ever wonder why I come to this particular shop that happens to be way out of the way, and only on days that you work?” he asked SungGyu, who only stared owlishly.
Leaning across the counter, DongWoo grinned, this time far more seductively than he’d seen from the dancer. “Though make dinner good enough and we’ll see about that breakfast.” Setting another business card down in front of SungGyu, he moved forward just enough for a quick press of lips before leaving the shop.
The two were silent until WooHyun was able to speak. “Okay, what just happened?”
SungGyu just shrugged, goofy grin slipping onto his face.
------------------------------
“So,” WooHyun greeted cheerfully the next time he saw his best friend. “How was dinner?”
“Good,” the older man answered casually as he fed the kittens.
“Just good?” WooHyun pressed. “After all that build up, it was just ‘good’? Did you get breakfast?”
“Nope. He had a last minute thing,” SungGyu explained with a light shrug. SungGyu had to chuckle when WooHyun continued to pester him for information as he just kept working, for once not rising to his best friend’s bait.
After all, while he didn’t get breakfast, he did get to indulge in a few helpings of dessert.
