Happy New Year, everyone! Hope your holidays were good. I'm finally back from my whirlwind two-week Christmas concert tour of my previous hometowns. I seriously should have made a tour T-shirt. We love you, Sarasota~! I've never done so much driving in my life. Didn't get a final mile count, but I'm thinking it's something like 1200. For real. Guh.
☆Saw my brother for the first time in 2 years. He has an awesome job and is enjoying himself in Philadelphia. Very proud of him. Also, he has finally gotten full men's facial hair at the age of 29. He is no longer paya paya. I guess it's beard season, eh? XD Oh, and while listening to Ryo's Code with my mom, I showed her Ryo's picture from the Pacific LE CD cover. She said he looks like my brother; I nearly threw up at this and told her so. I hope I forget this little gem soon, so I don't have some weird Pavlovian association every time I lust over Ryo. And I'm watching Ganbatte, Ikimasshoi! right now. Damn.
☆Got to hang out with my dad. He's so cool - we have a lot in common (this does not include my pretty-Japanese-boy fetish). Dad bought me one of those FM transmitters for my mp3 player - so now I can listen to all my little downloads in the car without having to make CDs. Yay!
☆Mom gave me a really cute soup bowl in the shape of a penguin's head. She labeled the tag "Love, Mumble," since we had watched and loved Tegoshi's dub of Happy Feet, and she tried to say it to me like they did in the movie - "manburu". Isn't she cute? She has also taken to writing little bits of romanized Japanese on greeting cards and such - I taught her the word daisuki for love, telling her "kaa-chan daisuki!" But she hasn't remembered it exactly and keeps writing, "Daisuke! Love, Kaa-chan" Hehehe! Daisuke, I believe, is a boy's name. My mom is the cutest thing EVAR.
☆My mom took me shopping at my favorite Asian grocery store in Sarasota. They had Vermont Curry - yes, the
very same curry from
Tegoshi's commercials. So of course, I could not leave without buying it. ^_^ Among other things, got a drink powder made from chrysanthemums and enough curry powder (and some other nameless, delicious-smelling spice) to feed my entire university for a year (I put curry on freakin' everything).
☆Went to my fave family Japanese restaurant - Taste of Tokyo (please go there, if you ever find yourself in Sarasota, Florida). The owner, Sushi Joe, remembered me!!! I used to eat there at least once a week, but I haven't been for a few years. He tried to communicate with me in crazy fast Japanese, since he heard I was learning it. Once I figured out (like a whole minute later than was warranted) that he was asking me if I wanted to teach English in Japan, I tried to think of a response, but my mind blanked out from being on the spot. For some reason, instead of responding with something simple like oshietai (I want to teach), I was trying to think up the whole "Yes, I plan to teach English in Japan next year" and couldn't think how to conjugate for tsumori. Threw the whole thing off and just said "uhhh... ha-hai!" He spoke to me in English after that. ><;;;
☆Spent New Year's weekend (through today) in south Georgia with my BFF. He has lost so much weight in the last few months! He's 6 feet tall - his weight had gone up to 200 lbs this past year, which didn't really look that big on his frame. Now he's in the high 140's (he cut out soda and fast food and only eats when he's actually physically hungry, which may amount to one or zero meals per day - to me, this is unthinkable). I felt like 140-something lbs was too skinny for a 6 foot tall man and began to tell him so. Then I thought about our JE boys and shut my mouth. ><;
☆BFF's mom went crazy on New Year's Eve from drinking and doing drugs. She is an awful, awful, abusive woman, and she even tried to get me involved by trapping me in the kitchen with her arm. His family had to call the cops, who arrested her. Thank goodness we were at a friend's house party when most of the bad stuff was going down. I love him so much and hate that he has to live with that mess. Hopefully he'll be able to move out soon. D:
My doggie and I are so glad to be home (though Sadie misses playing with my BFF's dogs). I haven't had much internet access for the last couple of weeks, so I have about 700 posts to go through on my friends page. I really want to read what my awesome f-list has been up to ^_^ - gonna try to get them all done today, so I probably won't be able to comment as much as I want to. *puts on
hachimaki* Ganbarimaaaaasu!
