So, it's chilly.
In the interest of not dying, I've cancelled most of my plans for the weekend and am going to shelter in place at the birdhouse. No use risking a long drive in icy weather if I can help it. Like any birdhouse, my birdhouse has tiny windows that let in lots of air. This is one of those times when I'm thankful I grew up poor--the heater doesn't work any kind of well, but I've done that before.
So, oven on (I have a gas stove and the gas bill is covered by the rent), and a little while ago I went draft-hunting. The bathroom was freezing, so I tacked up a little towel over the window in there, tacked a blanket over the front window since it's the biggest and that whole wall is cold right now, and stuffed a bunch of scarves in the crack between the entryway floor and the front door. That helped immensely, so we'll see how drafty it gets tonight once the ice starts. I've still got more blankets to go through, and it seems like the door is still letting cold air in, so I may have to take care of that. The heater's useless and it lets in cold air, so I'll probably stick a blanket or sarong over it too. I may not have central heat, but I do have an arseload of blankets, some nails and a hammer. I will not freeze tonight.
Going to make a run to the Cupboard once
turtliewings gets here, to grab the few things I didn't buy at Wal-Mart (I bought organic milk once, and I'll never drink the Wal-Mart stuff again), and I'll be fully stocked. I think it's good to have occasion to stock up for emergency conditions every now and then. Keeps us on our toes.
It's times like this that I wish I knew more about computers. Can you imagine the LAN parties we could have while we're all stuck inside like this?
Oooh, and I get to catch up/get ahead on homework this weekend! Being stuck does have its advantages.
Is it odd that I'm still one of those people who thinks being snowed in/in the path of a big thunderstorm/having the only road to the house washed out is just Nature's way of giving us a different sort of adventure?
Stay warm, everybody.
