On this rainy day, in a three-week streak of rainy days that seem to hit on the days I would normally take a walk with my toddler, I'm bummed. Not only is it raining, but I stepped on the scale today, and it's gone up to its highest level in more than a year. I'm hoping that it was a fluke and that, when I step on the scale again tomorrow for my official weigh-in, the results will be a bit better.
But I've got to face facts: I've still got seriously bad habits that need to go.
One of the worst: not watching the various calories that, here and there, add up. While I had said I would work on exactly that this week, I've done almost the opposite. I blame, in part, succumbing to a weakness and buying trail mix, which I have never been good about parceling out in reasonable portions. The goal of increasing fruit and vegetable consumption also hasn't been working out as I'd planned: as I've opted for either trail mix or a carb-based snack when I've been hungry.
On the brighter side, I'm continuing to do better with nighttime snacking, but the increased daytime snacking has been throwing me off.
It's time for me to hire a trainer: one who has experience with losing and maintaining significant weight lost. Someone who has my goals and interests at heart. Namely, myself. I've got to start listening to the little voice inside my head that says, "You don't need that snack right now. Try an apple instead," instead of listening to the voice that says, "I'm tired and depressed, and it's raining, and I want chocolate."
On the bright side of things, I did a 20-minute Denise Austin kickboxing workout and a 20-minute Denise Austin yoga/pilates workout this morning. My toddler happily ran around me, running between my legs when I held positions with my legs apart. He made the floor exercises challenging, but that's OK. Something is better than nothing.
I did it before. I can do it again. Like a 12-stepper, I've got to take it one day at a time, make the incremental changes, and stick to them. I know I can do it.
