Epilogue

Jared still goes to the group therapy sessions, but now it’s only to offer support to the survivors that are still suffering.

Jared feels at peace. He feels whole again.

He’s currently sitting on the bed against the headboard with the pillows piled up behind him, legs slightly drawn up as he sketches Harley who’s sprawled out on the end of the bed.

There’d been a short period of time where Jared was wracked with nerves over what he’d done, thinking he might be found out, but Jensen’s plan worked.

As far as anyone knows Nathan fell asleep reading the newspaper while smoking.

The police suspected alcohol was involved but there wasn’t enough left of the body to run a test.

And with what was found in the basement, well, if there’d ever been any lingering doubt as to the cause of death the police put it from their minds in favor of the larger investigation.

Jensen seems to get a short of voyeuristic pleasure watching the news reports and reading the online articles and twitter feeds.

Jared can hear him in the other room clicking away on his laptop keys even now.

The whole thing had exploded after the cops brought the search dogs in and found the first body buried in the woods behind the house.

Jensen told Jared yesterday that on the internet they’re calling what happened to Nathan an act of God. He’d passed on the information with a conspiratorial smile like he and Jared were God themselves.

The scrape of a chair against the wood of the kitchen floor and the clacking of claws alongside the shuffle of socked feet reaches Jared’s ears.

The partly open bedroom door opens wider and Jensen leans in over the threshold. “Hey, Nathan’s dad quit his job.”

“Yeah, well, I can imagine he’s been getting a lot of grief now that everyone knows what a freak his son was.”

Sadie is standing in the doorway next to Jensen. They’d gotten her about a week ago from the same shelter as Harley. She’s some kind of German Shepherd Mix and a manipulative little girl.

Harley raises his head, tail wagging and darts after Sadie when she ducks back out of the room.

Relaxed, Jared rocks his leg from side to side feeling content as he finishes up the shading on the drawing from memory.

Jensen smiles like he’s just seen the sun come out from behind the clouds for the first time in years. “You’re drawing.”

A smile pulls at Jared’s mouth.  “As much as I can on this little thing, yeah,” He replies, holding up the small pad of paper that they normally use to list grocery items. “My subject ran off though.” Jared taps the end of his pen against the paper. “I’m thinking about going back to school.”

“You should.”  Jensen agrees, coming over to stand beside the bed.  “With a degree and talent like that you could get some really high paying jobs.”

“I was thinking I might tell the dean what happened so you can come back too.”

“You don’t have to do that.”

Jared shrugs. “Talking about it doesn’t bother me anymore.”

“Well, if that’s what you want to do…”

“It is.”  Jared runs a hand back through his hair.  “I’m going to have to spend a small fortune in art supplies though. I’m really wishing I hadn’t thrown all that stuff away now.”

“Yeah, about that…” Jensen says. “I didn’t throw that stuff away. I put it in storage.”

Jared beams, “God I love you.” He reaches out a hand and tugs Jensen down on the bed with him by his shirt, kissing him as soon as he’s close enough, teeth teasing over Jensen’s lower lip as he pulls back.

Jared raises his arms letting Jensen tug his shirt off. He catches Jensen’s face in his hands as soon as he’s able, kissing him till he’s dizzy for air. When he pulls back Jared starts undoing the buttons on Jensen’s shirt, leaning in to kiss Jensen again when he’s halfway finished and relying on touch to fit the last of the circular tabs through their holes.

Jensen pulls back to shuck his shirt the rest of the way off. He shifts forward when he’s free of the article of clothing, moving between Jared’s legs and Jared makes room for him.

“So hot…” Jensen breathes out between kisses.  Hand sliding down Jared’s bent leg towards his zipper. “Want you so bad.”

Jared smiles breathlessly against Jensen’s mouth, feeling high. “Shut up and fuck me.”
