What is Industry night you ask?? Well I'll tell you; Industry night is where the students in my program get together and talk with people already in the print industry to meet, greet, and network for possible job opportunities in the future.
And right about now you are all wondering what is the print industry?? Well to put it short, pick up a magazine or newspaper and everything that is there was laidout, color corrected, printed, binded and finished then packaged. I excell more along the area of bindery and printing with some color correction and layout work under my belt. Digital Graphics Communication (DGC) teaches all aspects of the print industry, again basically it teaches you to be a jack of all trades in the print industry, which I like because that gives me a lot of options and job oportunities and chances to make money. A press operator can make up to $25 an hour starting wage while bindery can make roughly $25-30 starting wage. CSR's and sales reps fluctuate depending on the company due to working on commission or having a set wage.
Well back to Industry night, I got several job offers because I said I wanted to work in bindery and lots of places are in need of bindery people. What would I do in bindery?? I would do post press trimming and cutting as well as folding, glueing, packaging, and many other things. Its awesome, but I don't see myself doing it full time for 20 years. I still want to own my own gamestore and publish a monthly review for the store. Problem with that is I can't find any game distributors, I've looked online buts they're a little hard to come by. I'm still looking and when I find them i'll start a business plan.
Well thats all for now, until then I bid you Adieu
Later Days
