You are still needed and can still contribute. Go home, show the world Marines can come home with all their legs and arms attatched, and teach new Marines how to do the same job better next time.
Colin Powell's biography is full of such moments, with hindsight he could see it was part of a pattern to take him somewhere better. If you can't change adapt and move on you won't have much of a career in the military.
Let someone else worry about the last war, your job is to start thinking about winning the next.

Yeah I know, but there's so much more I feel I could do. Show others how come home in one peace is a plus. It's also about being there for the one's who already here. It means alot on both sides of table.

well i don't know much about anything really, but you think they would want to keep a guy that wants to stay there...there, and send home a guy that has a wife and kids and is dying to come home...home

this world makes no sense... and i know neither do i most of the time but this is almost a no-brainer... lol
