Today I got tickets for my mom and I to go to Las Vegas in late September to meet the newest addition to the family, my first grandchild, my son and daughter in law's little girl. I also took my mom to the beach in Pacifica. It was an awesome day for it. We sat on a bench along the promenade at Sharp's Park Beach. It was tee shirt weather in Pacifica- that's a rare thing. Many people who walked by said hello to my mother as they walked by, and hello again on their return trip. "That's because I am a little ol lady sitting on a bench eating popcorn," she said.

The parents of my cousin who died about a month ago live in Pescadero and are very worried about the Lockheed Fire. When my uncle stands on top of the hill on his property he can see the fire, and a change in the direction of the wind could bring toruble. His wife, my aunt via marriage, will go for tests Monday because her doctor feels it is likely she has bone cancer. She had beat breast cancer about five years ago.

My aunt and uncle have been through more than enough lately, so I hope they catch a couple of breaks here.

I have been practicing guitar all week, which is a good thing. My fingers are getting less sensitive, so it doesn't hurt as much to play a steel string guitar. The classes I signed up for start in September, so I am looking forward to that.

About two weeks ago I signed up for Big Brothers Big Sisters. I got through the background check and the application process. I got an email from them that it can take three months to a year for them to contact me about arranging a match due to funding cuts. That is just SAD.

It looks like 100 state parks in California will close. Since the parks in Southern California get more visitors, a lot of those closures witll be in Northern California. Another thing that is sad.

But the cherry and pear tomatoes are ripe on the vine, the Casablanca Lily is in full bloom and scenting the porch, and we have more lettuce than we can eat. There are also carrots, green onions, potatoes and herbs out there.

Happy weekend!
