Ian’s POV

Anthony tightened his hands on my arms and his body tensed. I had never seen him so angry. Fear crept into my body as that woman stalked toward us, digger her demon like fingers into my hand, pulling me forward.

“YOU are coming home with me.” she spat.

“Like hell he is.” Anthony growled, stepping in front of my trembling figure, pulling me gently but forcefully into his outstretched arm, which he placed protectively around my waist.

“Who the hell are you?!” she hissed, squinting her eyes together and looking me up and down.

“Anthony. I’m Ian’s boyfriend. but you wouldn't know that, considering how you don’t give two shits about Ian.”

“I have jurisdiction over him. he’s coming home with me.” she said, grabbing my hand again.

Actually, she doesn't. “Are you his godmother? Or anything like that?” Anthony spat, raising an eyebrow at her.

“Yes. As a matter of fact. Oops. look like you’re shit outta luck. He’s mine.”

Wrong bitch.

“I’m eighteen.” I mumbled. They both stopped, a scowl looming over my aunts face.

“You’re what?” Anthony asked.

“I’m legal age. I’m eighteen.” I smiled, looking up at Anthony, pulling my hand from her grasp. “You don’t own me.”

“How in the FUCK-”

“My birthday. November 30th. Technically, I've been an adult for six months now. But, god forbid you even acknowledged it. Oh that’s right!” I snapped, raising an eyebrow at her. “That night, you went out to the bar with your co-worker and got drunk. Then came home and threw a beer bottle at me because I tried to remind you.”

She sucked in her breath and scowled at me. “So. I think i’ll leave now.” I spat, pulling my hand from hers. “I have someone who actually loves me, so I can leave. And never come back. Have a nice life...” I said, as Anthony wrapped his arm around my waist, smiling proudly.

We walked away, and for show, he kissed my cheek, and I laughed. I was finally happy. I was finally free. We walked to Anthony’s can and he opened the door for me, grabbing my bag and putting it in the trunk. I closed my door and buckled, peering out the window at my aunt still standing there.

Even though she was my godmother, she didn't have to take me. I still don’t know why she did. Maybe because she loved my mother to much. They were sisters after all. I guess I have to thank her. if she didn't take me, I don’t know where I would be right now. Most importantly, I never would have met Anthony.

so in a way...I guess I’m thankful.

“You alright man?” Anthony asked. I snapped out of my trance and looked around. We were already out of the parking lot, driving down a busy street.

“yeah. I was just thinking...” I said. “My aunt never had to take me in. She could have dumped me aside for all I care. If that happened, I never would have met you.”

Anthony nodded. “I guess in a way, I’m thankful she kept me.” I said, looking down at my hands.

“But that doesn't change the fact that she treated you like shit all those years.” Anthony said, making a turn.

“I know. I’ll never forgive her for that. But. I’m just thankful you came into my life.” I smiled, taking his free hand. He smiled and squeezed it, as we pulled up to an apartment.

“Home sweet home.” Anthony smiled, putting the car in park. We got out and walked up the stairs, into his house. I bounced on my heels a little, anxious to get inside. It wasn't huge, but that was okay. We don’t need too much room.

“I know it isn't very big...but it’s just me.” he said, setting my bags on the couch. “Here’s the living room and kitchen, and down that hallway is a bathroom, my room, and a spare.”

“It’s fine. totally fine.” I smiled. “But, I don’t have all my stuff. Just some clothes.”

“We can get it from your house after school Monday.”

“Oh. That’s right...school.” I frowned. Jesus. One month went by already...

“Yep.” Anthony smiled. “Graduation. Then we can spend more time together.” Anthony smiled. “You know, when I came to the hospital with my skateboard, it was Prom.”

“You didn't go?” I asked sadly.

“Nah. I would have much rather spent my time with you.” he smiled. I sighed and looked at the ground. “Hey.” Anthony chuckled, lifting my chin up to look at him. “It’s fine. Don't worry about it.”

“Are you sure? I’m not that important...”

“To me you are.” Anthony whispered, kissing my forehead. “Come on. let’s go unpack.” he smiled, picking up my suitcase.

I followed him to the spare room, frowning a little. “I don't have enough room in my dresser. So that’s why your clothes are going in here.” Anthony said, looking up at me, as if he read my mind. I nodded and handed him my clothes, as he put them away.

We finished in ten minutes, and Anthony ordered a pizza. It was already five. I played with his blanket, watching him from his office chair, as he ordered the pizza. He spun around a little, drumming his fingers on the desk, his eyes darting around the room so often as he ordered. “Yeah...okay...thanks. Bye.”

he hung up and tossed his phone aside, getting up and sitting on the bed, next to me. We said nothing for a moment, just enjoyed each other's company.

“What are people gonna think?” I asked. Anthony turned to me. “I mean, all my life I was alone. Not to mention scared and alone. Now that I have someone here who actually loves me..it’s strange. In a good way. I was always told...unwillingly...that being gay was bad. But, it’s what I wanted. Now that it’s okay, that I’m being accepted for it...it makes me wonder. Will our classmates be accepting?”

Anthony took my hand in his and rubbed little circles on my hand, as he thought about what to say. “You know Ian...it doesn't matter what other people think. Your aunt, classmates...who gives a fuck? As long as we’re together, and you’re happy, that’s all that matters. From now on, you’ll never be alone. You’ll never be scared. I’ll always protect you, and I’ll never leave you behind. That’s a promise.”

I nodded and laid my head on his shoulder, as he rubbed my lower back, his shoulders rising slowly from his steady breathing.

“Im glad I met you at that party.” I said, smiling to myself, memories flashing in my mind. His body under the dimmed light, smooth under my touch. He chuckled. “Even though you left me in the morning.” I smirked.

“Sorry for that...” Anthony mumbled. “I was a little disheveled. But, I knew one thing. When I woke up next to you, your hair all messed up, mouth slightly parted, I swear you were perfect. I knew that i always wanted to wake up with you by my side. I knew I didn't want to leave, but I had to.”

“Really?”

‘Of course. Can we wake up next to each other every morning?”

“Of course.” I smiled, bringing my lips to his.
