Apparently, Gateway is the Microsoft of hardware. All of my co-workers and my boss reacted as if I had said, "I love Windows XP service pack 2", when I told them that my new computer is a Gateway. They didn't care that my service contract and warranty aren't with Gateway, that I'm fully allowed to add and remove hardware, or that it was a much faster, better machine than the HPs and eMachines available. All they care about is that it was made by Gateway.
Everyone is like, "Why didn't you get a Dell?" or "You know better, you should have built a machine."
I bought a pre-built machine because it is much less expensive that way. I just tried to build a comparable machine at
Monarch Computer and buy choosing the most inexpensive options it still cost $910 (That's with a Celeron processor, since Pentium D wasn't even an option). That's $60 more than what I paid for mine, not including the extended warranty.
I don't think it matters who assembled my computer. I just want people to leave me alone.
When I graduate and can spend $3000+ on a machine, I'll build the computer of my dreams, till then I'm happy with Refugee.
