C double A C-U-R-H CAACURH! CAACURH!
I have cheered this at least 100 times today. Call me a dork or call me lame or whatever, but I absolutely love this. Conferences are amazing... there are 2100 people here in Berkeley for the conference, and the energy is just amazing. The opening speaker, the new Dean of Students here, was amazing and inspiring, undoubtedly the best speech I've ever heard. This was during opening ceremonies, which were held in an outside Greek-style theater that was absolutely beautiful. Just wow.
Speaking of wow, this campus is absolutely beautiful and the history runs really rich here. It's the home of the free speech movement of the 1960s, and Martin Luther King Jr. spoke here in 1967. It's also home to the only spot of unowned land in the entire world, which reads something along of the line of "This land shall be owned by no one and is subject to no country's jurisdiction or laws," but it says it more eloquently and just straight up better. It's super neat.
The whole point of the NACURH conference (Or the CAACURH regional conference) is professional development as both an RA and especially as a member of our RHA (Residence Hall Association, ours is called the Resdients' Action Council). But somehow it's made incredibly cool, by the spirit and the passion everyone has for residence life.
I'm excited with where my life is going, despite having 3 finals on the Tuesday after I get back (Which is really the day I get back, since I'll arrive in Athens at 1:30 a.m. or so that morning). I love Residence Life.
