Thanks to
lick_j for the awesome cover art!
This is a fanmix to accompany my
xmenbigbang story, which is also called
No Direction Home.
Anyway, as you can tell by the title of my story, it has been influenced by the music of Bob Dylan. His music might not seem like the obvious choice for a Logan/Remy story, not if you primarily consider him to be an anti-war or protest singer. Certainly it's hard to imagine either Logan or Remy as a flower child. But Dylan's role as a reluctant spokesman for the 1960s counterculture also involves a lot of anger, loneliness, and disenchantment with the status quo, and these are elements I think relate pretty clearly to Logan and Remy's experiences. Too, Dylan has had a somewhat convoluted personal life, and I think that both Logan and Remy can relate to some of Dylan's forlorn love songs. And, ultimately, I just like listening to Bob Dylan.
Download the mix here (it's a direct link: right click + save). 16 songs + larger cover art = 81 MB.
As you can see, there are two version of each song--Dylan's, of course, and then a cover. Because even though Bob Dylan's gravelly ol' voice is perfectly suited to the songs he's written, sometimes you just want Joan Baez to caress your ears.
Chapter One (Logan)
Some people will offer you their hand
And some won't
Last night I knew you,
Tonight I don't
-- Mississippi
Chapter Two (Remy)
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better, but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time,
But don't think twice, it's all right
-- Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
Chapter Three (Logan)
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
-- Like a Rolling Stone
Chapter Four (Remy)
Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes
You don’t need a weatherman
To know which way the wind blows
-- Subterranean Homesick Blues
Chapter Five (Logan)
Well, I'm living in a foreign country but I'm bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor's edge, someday I'll make it mine
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm"
-- Shelter From the Storm
Chapter Six (Remy)
But me, I'm still on the road
Heading for another joint
We always did feel the same
We just saw it from a different point of view
-- Tangled Up in Blue
Chapter Seven (Logan)
If your time to you is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'
-- The Times They Are A-Changin'
Chapter Eight (Remy)
"No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late"
-- All Along the Watchtower
