This has been a shit week. It was already a shit week when I sat back and evaluated it this morning. Then at lunchtime I learned that my colleague - a fellow sysadmin and a fantastically good person - has died.

He was phenomenally intelligent, but also (unlike so many of us geeks) passionate about physical activity. He hiked, he skiied, he scuba-dived. I've never seen him be anything but calm, polite, and genial.
Think I will go home and try to get myself together. Working here - and particularly the sysadmin restaurant forays - will be much less enjoyable now.
