Yeah, so I have a Facebook, but I like LJ better. Facebook doesn't encourage any kind of real thought, just chatting. Fun, but I'll put more on this probably. I wonder if I have any friends here anymore?
I've decided to set a goal for myself of reading 30 books this summer. I just finished by first, The Stories of Ibis by Hiroshi Yamamoto. It's a novel (not manga) published by VIZ. My brother lent it to me and I've always liked his recommendations. This one was no exception. It's several short stories the author wrote previously, strung together by a larger story of an android reading stories to a human boy. My favorite was "The Day Shiro Came" which is about how an artificially intelligent android learns to be a caregiver in a nursing home. Ultimately the android comes to the conclusion that all of humanity suffers dementia. The author was particularly compelling in his invention of a language called i that the androids speak to each other. It was written in Japanese, then translated, so perhaps I'm really complimenting the translator!
