So I finally have something to say about the Avatar finale...
Well, I can't say I'm not disappointed, nor that I didn't see this coming from miles away. I spoiled myself some time ago (I know, I'm weak!) and the last 15-20 minutes were not what I wanted to see (and, no, before you ask, I'm not talking about shipping). My issue(s) have everything to do with Aang, TBH. No character development, convenient plot devices, and his constant evasion were probably my biggest problems with the way this played out.
And don't get me started on the only creature -- a frickin' giant lion-turtle FOR GOD'S SAKE!!! -- that could talk in the entire Avatar-verse giving him advice on how to "spirit-bend," or whatever they want to call what he did to Ozai. Aang got to do things the way he wanted, didn't have to change FOR ANYONE despite the fact he was told by everyone he had to "suck it up," and STILL got the girl in the end. While I don't have as big of a problem of him getting with Katara necessarily, it felt like an undue reward or something...
Also, I thought we were going to see Zuko find his mom at some point...The only hint of that we received was him questioning sadface!imprisoned!Ozai about his mother's whereabouts. If Mike and Bryan plan on doing Avatar spin-offs, I think this is where they're going with it -- Zuko traversing the world hunting seeking his mother.
Speaking of Zuko looking for mommy attempting to find Ursa, I have a sweet fanfic idea (of course, no idea when I'll ever get to it). Zuko, along with Katara, look for his mom (he helped her look for her mother's killer, so she's simply returning the favor. And, as far as I'm concerned, they're at least BFFs since he saved her from lightning). He leaves Mai behind to plan their wedding/watch over the Fire Nation in his stead, while he and Katara look for his mom, with some help from Jun. Of course, Aang is spreading peace or something like that, so he's too busy to go along for the ride. And, of course, any good, ol' Zutaran can guess what happens next...(Imagine intrigue, ninja-style adventure and romance.)
Otherwise, I'm making the combo of
fandomme's
Ozai's Vengeance and
aj_rayne's
Somewhere in Between/
Out of the Gray & Into the Black my future!storyline...
Also, I'm totally going to the Avatar panel on Friday night at Comic-Con, just so I can get an explanation from Bryke in person...Let me know if there's anything you'd like to pass on!
EDIT: I do want to let everyone know that I DID like most of the finale, lest you believe I found it ALL rotten. I loved the animation, the fight scenes, and the music was fabulously coordinated. Anyway, thanks for commenting everyone and being such good friends to me -- especially since this was my first fandom!
