The First Remus_Recs Challege: Define and Defy Your Peeves!
We all remember that when Remus stuffed gum up Peeves's nose, he effectively disarmed the annoying twit of a poltergeist. Now I'll try to disarm some Pet Peeves myself by asking all peeved folks to work with their dislikes and turn 'em into something wonderful!
As mentioned in my previous post, I have an idea that, if anyone actually reads this, might offer a twist on the Pet Peeves meme and use it to mend fences or build bridges or generally save the world as we know it. Best of all, it'll work for any Remus fan subgenre. Thus, I hereby introduce...
We all have little things that bug us in the Remus-related HP fics we read. Maybe you're annoyed by OCs, or Self-Hating Remus, or Romantic!Snape, or when Peter isn't included among the Marauders, or cross-gen romances, or ... well, you get the picture.
But the HP fanfic 'verse is so vast, so filled with talent, that my guess is that for every Pet Peeve you can come up with, somewhere there is a story that incorporates one of your Pet Peeves, and does it in a way that you manage to swallow your distaste and end up liking the story.
So here's my challenge to everyone out there: come up with a list of two Pet Peeves in your favorite area of Remus fandom, and then either ...
1) Recommend a story that includes an example of one of these Peeves and makes it palatable or even enjoyable. And don't forget to explain why you think the author was successful!
or
2) Write a story yourself that includes this Peeve in a way that you think might make it work for you. Talk about a tough exercise for some writers!
Y'all can do this in your own journals, in your favorite communities, or right here. I also think it would be interesting if people looked at one another's Pet Peeves and recced one or two stories that fit the Peeve and either transcend it or make it palatable.
Just an idea. It might work, might flop, or just might twist your Pet Peeves list into something fun and constructive. What do you think?
