Who was your favorite teacher in school? Why were they your favorite?
Without a doubt, Professor McGonagall was my favorite. She was -- and still is -- the sort of professor who needn't tell you that you're going to sit down, shut up, pay attention and give her some damn respect; you just did it.
She was strict, true, but she was usually fair about it. Sometimes she came down a little harder on Gryffindors but, instead of complaining that she didn't seem to like us like a lot of the other students did, I always thought she did that because she liked us better. She had more faith in us and held us to a higher standard. And no matter how proper and formal she stayed, I always got the feeling that she thought of us as hers. It made Gryffindor feel like even more of a family to me and definitely helped me at a time when I really needed it.
