HBP wonderings

A lot of people seem to be filled with Half Blood Prince woe, at the moment. So far I've noticed people who:

1-Are scared to read it (because they don't want canon to change).

2-Don't care if they read it or not (because they're too into fanon and OotP didn't float their boat).

3-Will read it but will no longer continue to be a fan/read the series if x, y, or z happens (ie, the death of a favoured character).

4-Are fucking excited because one of their favourite series is going to be expanded upon and some of the best fictional characters of all time will be further explained and hey- if the canon change is too dramatic, there's always gonna be AU fic.

5-Will not read it, no way, no how, point blank fuck off, because that bitch killed Sirius, dammit!!

I wonder, fellow Harry Potter lovers, which category it is that you fall into, and why?

I myself am falling into category 4. I love Harry Potter: no strings attatched! I don't care if J.K kills off Ron- because if she does (and it is written well), I will understand that it is necessary to her story. I won't hate her for getting rid of Remus/Molly/Dumbledore/Whomever- it's her book, after all- and if it is a plot device which can improve it, I will understand. I won't burn the book on the sacrificial altar and offer her soul to Beelzebub if she makes it clear Harry will never shag Draco, or Draco will never be redeemed, or that Ginny's secretly a goth slut with purple eyes actually, fucking scrap that, if she writes Ginny!Sue, my JK love is over.

Anyway. What I'm trying to say is this;

If the book remains well written, if the characters remain true to form, if JK keeps up her stellar plot and quirky dialogue- then there is no reason I will not adore this book. Though don't get me wrong- I'm not going to accept any old shit from the woman and continue to love it blindly.

However, what I think is important is that a lowly fic author such as myself remembers SHE is the author. It's not about what I'd do. It's not my book. It's not my canon.
I think it's silly to place conditions on something you have no control over. I think it's silly to only like a series if it confines to your rules. That's not true appreciation, in my book. That's not being a real fan.

Why do I feel this way? Because I feel if you do this- if you set yourself such conditions about something you have no control over- you're only going to set yourself up for a fall. In short, you're probably going to prejudice yourself against enjoying this book. Isn't that a waste?
Isn't it good to read for the sheer enjoyment of reading, as opposed to reading to have your hopes fulfilled? Isn't it more enjoyable if you just trust the author?

As the wise maybefriday once said; JK's not George Lucas - she doesn't piss on her canon.

JK's not going to write R/S because she knows thousands would orgasm over it if she did. Same way she's not going to reveal that Regulus actually turned to the dark side because Sirius didn't toss him off enough. She likes to screw with us, surprise us, and most of all- not just give us what we want.

And that's kind of why I like her- and her story so much.

(And fuck; if she does kill of Draco my favourite character, so what? I'll cry about it, sure, but there's always necrophilia.)
