I've had a thought that's been nagging me for a while. It's something that I can't stop thinking about, something that constantly just brings up a surge of emotions in my mind. And that's why I feel I have to let them out by writing about them.
How long does a human live? We each have our alotted span of years. We can increase or decrease them by the way we live our lives, how we act, decisions made before we were born, or even random chance. It's not up to us to know exactly how much time we have. Many people over the years have dedicated their works and lives to extending that amount, to give us more time to do what we want. Whether to find ways to gain happiness, love, wealth, contentment, peace, satisfaction, validation, or whatever else a person might want. We have been gifted with this time by the miracle that is our lives.
But what I keep thinking about, no matter how much people have strived, that inescapable fact remains.
You can't get that time back.
No matter what we do, every second that passes is another lost. Every moment we spend is one that is gone forever. That makes every moment precious, every second one to be cherished. That's why it's important to look at the life you have. Not without hope, because though life ends, we live on in the hearts and minds of those we've touched and those who hear our story. It's important to look at what you have and be thankful for it, because once you understand the value of what you have, that's when you understand the value of what others have.
What is important in our life is that we live a life that is positive. Every single one of us has the power to stand up and make the world a better place. Some of us might find that by helping their town, or even their country. Some of us might help those less fortunate than ourselves. Others might make the world a better place by just touching a single person's life and giving them the happiness and hope they've always looked for.
People might say that it's a dark, tough time right now. People might complain about the economy, the weather, the drive to work, or any of a multitude of things. Life is made of ups and downs. It moves in cycles. Every challenge, every tough time you have, is a chance to improve yourself somehow. The most important thing is to keep the proper perspective about these things, to see the seed of benefit in each challenge.
I hope that each of you finds a way to share your story with the world, and make it a better place. This is true immortality, because each of our actions will echo down through centuries.
Make the most of your lives, people. I wish all of you the best, because it's there for you to take. Carpe diem!
