Draco realized he had a crush on Hermione Granger when he first saw her dancing. Who knew the Mudblood would clean up so well?
“If I slap you silly, will you look at me like that?”
Turning his attention back to his dance partner, Draco saw her eyes shining with challenge-and something wistful.
“Don’t be silly, Pansy,” he said, smoothly guiding her into the next dance pattern. “If I have a fetish for physical abuse, I would have hooked up with Potter ages ago.”
She snorted and couldn’t help chuckling.
Draco grinned and pulled her into a full twirl.

“You make a beautiful bride, Pansy.”
Pansy laughed, face flushed with happiness and the wedding toasts. “When I imagined us dancing at my wedding, I never thought that you would be the best man instead of the groom.”
Draco smiled at his best friend, who looked radiant in her stylish robes. “Theo is a very lucky man,” he said, light hair falling forward to shade his eyes.
Gentle fingertips smoothed hair away from his temples. “And you, Draco? When will I dance at your wedding?”
The song ended on a lingering note. Draco silently escorted Pansy back to her husband.

When Hermione Granger wore a blue dress to the Ministry Yule ball, Draco took it as a sign.
“Go over there before I slap you silly.”
Draco raised an eyebrow at Pansy.
“Or are you abandoning her to Weasley's inept hands?”
Theodore muttered something unflattering, which Draco ignored. “Pansy Parkinson-Nott-are you matchmaking me with a Gryffindor?”
Pansy rolled her eyes at his mock offended tone.
Draco drained his cold glass of champagne and set it on the table. “If you will excuse me.” He left the table with dignity, ignoring his friends' amused snickers.
“May I have this dance?”
