leobrat He is the outsider, looking in.
Always, no matter where he goes. In his own family, with his half-sister, and his cousin, and his uncle, and his adoptive mother, he has never quite fit in. The girls adore him, and Alexis has been, he has a feeling, better than his real mother would have ever been, and over the years, he and Ric have grown to respect and be quite fond of each other, though he recognizes the wariness in his uncle’s eyes. The feeling is mutual.
As the only surviving member of his ‘real’ family, he is also the only one that has managed to hang onto his sanity.
It should be no surprise to Morgan that he will be the outsider in his marriage.
He had known, from the beginning, from the first time he set eyes on her in Kelley’s all those years ago, that Lila Rae Alcazar was going to change his life. He’d managed to give her the cool, polite exterior he’d cultivated for so many years watching his uncle keep his own demons at bay, but the second he’d stepped outside, he’d almost been knocked sideways by how she took his breath away. It was more than just her being beautiful- she was brazen, she was untamed, wild, unpredictable. She was everything that he had always feared would destroy him from the inside out, the way passion had destroyed his family.
But she surprised him, and she had continued to surprise him every day for the past three years, since she had told him she loved him, heart and soul, and always would, with that heartbreaking sincerity and vulnerability and he knew that he could never push her away. He would protect her forever, and make sure that he would be the man she needed him to be. He would not destroy either one of them, and she became the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
He watched her across the room, her eyes sparkling red hot passion as she spoke quietly (and so closely) with his cousin.
Morgan was no fool. Just as he’d known that Lila Alcazar had an unparalleled affect on him since the moment he met her, he’d always known that she’d had the same affect on Spencer. However, instead of fighting his desire at every turn, Spencer had gone after her full force, and let the entire city (the entire world, if they would listen) that he intended to make Lila his own. Morgan remembers the summer after Lila arrived, and the following year- any time that Lila and Spencer were in the same place, one could feel the tension as thick as thieves, while Morgan was torturing himself trying not to erupt with lust.
But all of that was over, he assured himself, pulling himself out of the past and out of memories, and forcing himself to see his fiancée speaking to his cousin as she had the rest of his family members.
Lila and Spencer abruptly stopped talking as Morgan approached. “Sorry to keep you, sweetheart,” Morgan pressed a kiss to where her smooth shoulder met her throat and shot his cousin a warning look. She was his, she would soon be his wife, and he would not surrender her.
He would not be the outsider any more.
