Oh. This feels like a punch to the gut of emptiness, condensed and dark and then not so much dark as bleak, and that's even more heartbreaking. You convey so clearly how there's nothing left in her life that Ginny wants, and all her memories are things she doesn't want to remember. I love what you did with the graveyard scene and the flowers.

And these lines:
That's what I remember, she writes, and pauses at the bite of the comma. Of course that is the whole problem, isn't it? Memory?

the ghosts, hanging like a trail of poorly-washed laundry behind her.

The ghosts are not unkind, but nor are they welcome; that is the nature of ghosts, she supposes, and falls asleep in the ancient confines of the bathtub.

She did not think she would mind it if someone did come; but then she would not mind living, either.

are just amazing. Thank you so much for writing this.

Thank you so much! I am so so pleased you liked it. It was an interesting challenge negotiating Ginny in this situation, showing the loss without making it macabre; that kind of emptiness that comes from attending too many funerals, from waking up every morning in the alternate reality that is your existence. I hope it worked well for you. Thanks for signing up for remix!

I like the way everything feels all jumbled up and as if it's all happening at once -- as if Ginny's grief and estrangement have frozen her in time.

What a wonderful remix. I remember the original from femgenficathon and thought it was sad but peaceful. You made the chaos feel numbing, and how you wrote it really resonated. It's so sad. The line, "She has carefully built her life, her thoughts, her habits, around the absence of everything before." made my heart clench. Thank you for sharing.

I suppose this is strange but Ginny feels more real here in her heartbreak than in canon. I'll choose to see a little hope here:
There was nothing she was leaving behind. She thought perhaps someone would come to give her the death she had once wanted, but weeks passed and there was nothing. She did not think she would mind it if someone did come; but then she would not mind living, either.
