I read this first and then the original. I love yhlee's premise, but I found the stark poignancy of your remix very effective, the idea that you can't go back again, the sense of innocence lost. Yours is a very grown-up Buffy, both yearning and pragmatic.

It was only after that she realized that a part of her had hoped for gypsy magic. A curse to take away this overwhelming humanity.

...Wow. A great insight on something that wasn't made explicit in the original. Amazing and heartbreaking story.

Thank you very much. I really liked the idea that this Angel was not really Angel, at least not to Buffy, and that she wasn't in love with this human with none of their shared memories.

Thank you for your very gracious feedback. I wish I could have done more with it and done your story justice-- Remix is a hard thing to whip out a pinch hit for, I discovered :) It was a pleasure to look through your library of fic though. Now that I have time to dwell, I'm going to go back and dig in a little deeper.

I had almost picked Eurydice to remix by the way, then googled it and found that it was remixed last year. Foiled! :)

The Empty City was great though, because it had this eerie quality. The city was empty, and everyone was a stranger to Angel, including himself. I wanted to play with what was happening in Buffy's mind and how she had this chance at something she thought she'd always wanted, but in the end wasn't willing to wait for.

You were a pleasure to write for. Happy remix!

This was so beautiful and heartbreaking. You write a wonderful Buffy, and as un-Angel as Angel in this story is (one of the things that make this story so strong), I feel for him too. Wonderful work.

This is wonderful and gut-wrenching at the very same time. I love the twist that Shanshu and a reunion of Buffy and Angel don't necessarily mean happily ever after here.
